Michael Fassbender Talks 'Prometheus,' 'Shame' Oscar Snub And Penis Jokes In GQ

Last year could have easily been called the year of Michael Fassbender. After starring in "X-Men: First Class," "Jane Eyre," and "A Dangerous Method," he famously dropped trou' in "Shame" (which, perhaps even more famously, he did not receive an Oscar nod for). Needless to say, the actor's 2012 has a lot to live up to.

And it looks like Fassbender is ready for the challenge. This summer, he'll be starring in Ridley Scott's long-awaited return to the sci-fi world, "Prometheus." In it, Fassbender plays David, an android in a team of explorers who uncover mankind's greatest secrets.

As the actor recently told GQ, Scott had Fassbender draw inspiration for his character from three movies: "The Man Who Fell to Earth," "The Servant" and, most importantly, "Lawrence of Arabia."

"I had 'Lawrence of Arabia' on a loop in my room throughout filming," he said. "Jesus, I watched it so many times." (Even in the blogger-lauded "Prometheus" trailer, there's an homage to Peter O'Toole's famous flick: "Big things have small beginnings.")

The GQ article also gets the first comments from the actor on his Oscar snub. At the time, "Shame" director Steve McQueen was very vocal about his dismay.

For Fassbender, it was a bit different. The actor explained that the overwhelming assertions that he would be going to the Oscars affected his own opinons, and when it did not come to fruition, he was not happy. "I was very upset by it," he said. "The first reaction was 'What the f-ck...?' It's a vanity thing. It does become important to you. And it shouldn't."

A large portion of the article was also dedicated to, yes, all those "Shame" penis joke, including ones from actor George Clooney ("He could golf with his hands behind his back") and "Prometheus" co-star Charlize Theron ("I was truly impressed that you chose to play it big").

"Prometheus" hits theaters on June 8.

Sounds like he's one of these actors/celebutards who have fallen in to that trap of believing in their own hype. How unfortunate for him.

I don't recommend anyone see "The Man Who Fell to Earth" David Bowie is cool and does well, but it's incredibly long, disjointed and full of ridiculous nudity that serves no purpose. I like cult sci-fi but it was awful.
