'Carrie' Remake: Julianne Moore To Star Alongside Chloe Grace Moretz

Yep, this "Carrie" remake is still happening.

According to Deadline, Julianne Moore has signed on to the upcoming horror film. She'll play Carrie's nutso mom, Margaret White. (The role was originally portrayed by actress Piper Laurie, whose performance got her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod.) Joining Moore will be Gabriella Wilde, who'll play popular girl and fellow Carrie classmate Sue Snell.

The film follows high-school outcast Carrie (Chloe Grace Moretz, taking over for Sissy Spacek), who's tormented constantly by both her peers and her fundamentalist mother, Margaret. However, Carrie soon discovers that she has telekinetic powers whenever she becomes angry.

The "Carrie" remake will be directed by Kimberly Peirce, best known for her work in the 1999 film, "Boys Don't Cry."

I thought this movie was already remade in 2009. There are just some movies that have a tough time topping the original. Psycho was one. Even without any color or gore, the original was so much better. And who can top Piper Laurie's creepy Mom? She was so brilliant she was nominated for an Oscar in the role (not too many actresses in horror films get that honor). She was so unassuming and convincing. And of course Sissy Spacek was stellar. OK, so good luck to everyone involved!

This is not going to be a good movie. They have a good director, but this seems like it is going to be the standard remake with a sexy eye candy actress to play Carrie which completely abandons the impact and meaning of the original. She was picked on because she is shy meek and plain, and now they got a supermodel to play her. This is pretty much the remake formula and it usually spells disaster. What was wrong with this? Why does it need to be touched?

As much as I want to see remakes like this succeed, they seldom do and it is frustrating that they cannot come up with their own ideas.

No originality left?

I'm sure it will be dumbed-down to a PG-13 for the teenybopper market.

Will there be nudity like in the original film?

isn't this like the fourth or fifth time this story's been made into a movie?

Yes. I know it was remade at least once before....and not memorably.
