'Avengers 2': Predicting The Plot And Characters Of The Marvel Superhero Sequel

Moviefone  |  By Posted: 05/07/2012 4:58 pm Updated: 05/07/2012 4:58 pm

It hasn't been announced yet, but "The Avengers" is getting a sequel. (You don't go breaking all those box-office records only to bow out early.)

Unfortunately, it will likely be years before Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble for another cinematic team-up. So, rather than go crazy with anticipation, why not partake in a healthy distraction, like in-depth movie geek conspiracy theories about the plot of "Avengers 2"?

It's easy to say "We want to see Spider-Man team-up with the Avengers, and then they can fight Loki and the Red Skull and the Abomination!" But that way leads to fanboy ruin. The Marvel Movieverse is heading down a clear path, and all you need to do is a little detective work to figure out their plans for the future.

Moviefone decided to put the clues together and predict the events of "The Avengers 2." We stand behind our educated guesses, so consider this the early scoop on new heroes, new villains and new hazily defined magic sci-fi MacGuffins!

SPOILER WARNING: Not surprisingly, to talk about "Avengers 2," we have to reveal the events of "The Avengers." If you haven't seen it, turn back now!

Edgar Wright teased a production update this weekend on Twitter. And as much as we'd like that hint to to mean he's starting filming tomorrow, the reality is that the director has his plate full bringing "Kolchak" to the big-screen.

Not to mention, Ant-Man's goofiness is a little goofier than Iron Man or Thor. It makes more sense to introduce Ant-Man in "Avengers 2," then springboard him out to his own movie.

And if we're going to get Ant-Man, it's only natural that we'll get...

I would appreciate The Avengers MORE if the Hulk did NOT have the long arms of an ape AND Agent Colson had survived his encounter with Loki and at least made it back to Portland.

Two words - “Black Panther” Basically your adding diversity, and “cool-ness" at the same time. He’s Marvels Batman in the Avengers….And he’s just as dope!

They really shouldn't do Ant Man. Mainly because...no one really cares about him. He doesn't have any special powers other than he can shrink and grow in size; which I think will be a little too much for even a comic movie. The people they need to add for Avengers 2 are Ms Marvel, Black Panther, Luke Cage, Dr Strange and Spider-Man. Yes, I know Spidey is Sony; Marvel needs to work a deal and add him anyway. It would be a perfect mix of classic and new Avengers.

Nobody cared about Blade, but they were still able to build a successful movie franchise around him. The fact is that almost any Marvel character can have their own film, as long as it's handled properly. Ant-Man is no exception. Just because I think he could pull off a movie though, doesn't mean he's right for The Avengers.

Black Panther is a good fit, as is Ms. Marvel. Luke Cage is a fun character, but he would work better initially as part of a Heroes for Hire franchise alongside Iron Fist and a few other less known heroes.

Dr. Strange would be a great movie, but he would serve Marvel Studios better as the first of a series of horror comic movies. Follow Strange up with a new Blade & the Nightstalkers movie (Marvel Studios got the rights back from New Line), Morbius: The Living Vampire, Hellstorm, Man-Thing, and finally bring them all together for a Midnight Sons team-up movie. Marvel Studios needs to diversify their movies more, and this would be a great way to start.

Please no Ant Man! He is one of the lamest Avengers ever. His power, his name....all of it makes me think of scenes from Honey I Shrunk the Kids....

Seriously, what's the deal with Ant-Man? He was always one of my least favorite Avengers, and I can't for the life of me figiure out why all of a sudden everyone wants Ant-Man in the fray. I mean, come one, even the name is ridiculous. ;)

The fact that the Black Panther wasn't mention is pure blasphemy... really Falcon?? He would be a nice little addition to Captain American solo universe if they manage to bring to the big screen in a way that don't make him seem like comic relief something I doubt is possible.

War Machine is cool but not realistic just like Captain Marvel.

I predict Black Panther, Ant-man and Wasp.
