Jeremy Renner isn't exactly thrilled with his sudden rise to fame. Sure, it's gotten him a $5 million payday for "The Bourne Legacy," but he's had to contend with paparazzi and rumors that he's either gay or dating "Avengers" co-star Scarlett Johansson.
"The celebrity thing is new to me," the Oscar-nominated actor tells the Hollywood Reporter. "I don’t want to be a good celebrity, a good f---ing star. I want to be a good human being.”
In the interview, Renner also fumes about being linked to several actresses, and rumors that he's secretly gay. "I want my personal life to be personal, and it’s not f---ing true... And I don’t care if you’re talking about things that are true, you’re still talking about my personal life. How about I go peek in your window, take what underwear you wore last night, whose husband you were f---ing, and shove that in the megaphone throughout your neighborhood? How does that feel?"
Unfortunately, the paparazzi trouble did not ease up for Renner after an infamous Thailand barfight earlier this year, which Renner now calls "a silly, tragic accident." In the wild scenario, a hotel manager was attacked with a homemade axe at 4:30 a.m. in a bar in Phuket. Renner says he was never involved and left when the violence began.
"He was saying stuff, and 20 people jumped on him," the actor explains. "I was in flip-flops. I don’t do bar fights. Did he deserve to get stabbed and almost murdered by 20 people? F--- no.” (Actually, just six men were arrested in the attack, according to USA Today.)
