'Total Recall' Trailer: Colin Farrell Turns Super Soldier In Sci-Fi Remake

This isn't your ... uh, father's "Total Recall"?

The let's-do-a-remake game continues with the first trailer from the reboot of the 1990 action hit starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In the new version, Colin Farrell takes over the Ah-nuld role of Douglas Quaid, a worker whose nightmares have lead him to believe he was once a spy whose memory has since been erased.

The role of Quaid's wife, Lori -- originally played by Sharon Stone -- is now played by Kate Beckinsale, and Rachel Ticotin's Melina has gone to Jessica Biel. (Unfortunately, this first trailer has no sign of the main villain, Vilos Cohaagen, played by Bryan Cranston.)

As you can see from the clip above, the big difference between the original film and the new one will likely be the special effects. The updated version has a sleek, futuristic design and slick camerawork. (Although, not sure Farrell's. Quaid would stand a chance against Schwarzenegger's.)

You can check out the HD trailer over on Apple.

"Total Recall" hits theaters August 3.

Ah-nold wouldn't be able to pull off the video game style moves Colin does in this trailer.

Nobody who's not Arnold should be allowed to remake movies that had Arnold in them. There was only one Arnold.

The Conan movie was silly with that Rastafarian guy playing Conan, and this movie will look silly with some sneering Australian or whatever that guy is.

Similarly they should never make a Dark Tower movie. With Clint being too old, there is nobody who can do the role justice. Wait 50 years for virtual actors and use a virtual Clint.

Actually he's Irish. Funny someone recently also mistook Christian Bale is Australian, but he isn't either. He's Welsh.

Did I catch a glimpse of Jessica Biel in this one? Trailer looks OK not sure if Colin was the best pic for the star of this movie. I guess time will tell. Until then, check out this improved 3D version of the "Total Recall" Trailer: http://3dtv.com/UI/ViewMedia.aspx?MediaID=4633

I assume by "sleek and futuristic" you mean "cartoony and overly-CGI'd to the point of making it unwatchable".

Right?

All these remakes make me think I'm watching a video game. Bring back real movie sets.
