'Anchorman 2': Will Ferrell Set To Star In Sequel; Judd Apatow To Produce

"Anchorman 2" is back from the dead!

According to Deadline.com, Paramount has finally reached an agreement on the long-awaited sequel. Will Ferrell is set to reprise his role as news anchor Ron Burgundy, and Adam McKay will be back to direct and co-write. Steve Carell and Paul Rudd are also set to return, however, the report leaves no mention of David Koechner, Christina Applegate or Fred Willard. (Fingers crossed they will sign on eventually!)

Despite previous failed attempts for a sequel (in 2010, McKay tweeted, "So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried"), it appears the two sides were finally able to come to an agreement.

Released in 2004, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" has become one of the most quotable comedies in movie history.

The "Anchorman 2" news was also announced by Ron himself on tonight's episode of "Conan." (You can see the full clip -- complete with Burgundy flute-playing -- above.)

Although most will welcome an "Anchorman" sequel, this news couldn't come at a worse time for Buddy the Elf, who is currently duking it out against Burgundy in Moviefone's Will Ferrell Tournament.

UPDATE: EW is now reporting that sequel is slated for a late 2013 release date.

It's clear from the posts, you either love Ferrell or hate him. I think Anchorman is one of the funniest movies ever. Not everybody appreciates his humor.

I'm not jealoud of anything, pretty happy with my own success. Maybe it
's my age, as you say, cause I'm old enough to remember some seriously funny actors and comedians. I think he just proves the dumbing down of this country.
