Prometheus Trailer

Little is known about Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," -- and the director would like to keep it that way -- but thankfully, the new full-length trailer debuted at WonderCon in California on Saturday, giving fans a first look at the film's most crucial storylines.

"Prometheus" follows the crew of the spaceship Prometheus in the year 2085, as they explore an advanced alien civilization in search of the origins of humanity. Scott originally conceived the idea for "Prometheus" as a prequel to his 1979 science fiction horror film classic "Alien." However, with some input from writer Damon Lindelof, the film developed into a separate story that precedes the events of "Alien," but which is not directly connected to the film.

Although, this more in-depth "Prometheus" trailer does reveal a few more links to the "Alien" franchise. After the spaceship Prometheus reaches the mysterious planet, there is a quick glimpse of a space jockey -- a creature from the "Alien" universe -- in its pilot seat.

Scott announced at WonderCon that he is hoping to make a "Prometheus" sequel, reports EW. “If we’re lucky, there will be a second part of this [film],” he said. “The film does leave you with some nice big open questions.”

"Prometheus," starring Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green and Michael Fassbender, hits theaters on June 8.

Honestly, I don't get the love.

Something is missing here. It lacks the atmosphere of the original. The acting seems really stiff and "on the nose." And the trailer only starts to click during the action montage in the last 30 seconds.

I love the original and I love "Bladerunner", but this movie looks and feels like the typical CGI Hollywood movie. If you removed the Ridley Scott title card, I don't think anyone would be gushing about this trailer based on what is actually presented. It looks very ordinary for the genre.

I predict it will have a big opening based on the "Alien" association, but I am also predicting generally negative reviews and a general audience assessment that the movie is too slow, too cerebral, and not scary enough.

Will definitely see this one on the big screen.

Desperately looking forward for this one. From the same director who us Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, Gladiator and many more.

There are very few movies made anymore for which I will drag my butt off the couch and wait in line to see it when it first comes out. This is one of them.

There are a lot of good movies coming out this year and I will be going to the theaters to see them. When Hollywood puts out enough quality products people will spend the time and money to see them in the theater. Instead of worrying about people downloading the movies they should focus more on quality. That's how they will make money.

This movie will be epic in scope. Ridley's best film since Blade Runner.

I love the fact that the Prometheus as a space ship looks 100 times more technologically advanced than the Nostromo (Assuming this is all happening in the same universe as Ridley Scott has hinted at) fromthe original Alien movie, despite the fact that according to their shared time-line, the Prometheus predates the Nostromo by about 100 years.

But obviously, I'm only nit-picking or more accurately I'm only joking.

No one wants to see CRT's and blocky button consoles in a space ship from the next century today.

But it's always funny how these things trip up directors who decide to make prequels to movies they did 30 years ago.
See also : George Lucas and his vastly more advanced looking "older" ships in his prequels to his original Star Wars trilogy.

Never understood that criticism of the prequels. The ships are sleeker sure, a product of thier time...but more advanced? In what way? I always thought the Death Star was the most advanced ship in the galaxy and that was in the originals. Also the starfighters needed hyperdrive rings in the prequels whereas the rebels all had fighters with built in hyperdrives.

Shiny, pretty and slick does not equal more advanced.

I'm pretty certain that Holo-projection and flat-screen transparent display are DEFINITELY more advanced than CRT displays.

By any standard, and in any universe.
(hint: liquid crystal display and whatever technology they use for holographic projection CANNOT precede transistor techonology that CRT's are based on.
Quantum mechanics.)

The Prometheus has the former - clearly - while the Nostromo sported the latter

Incidentally.
That post was a tongue-in-cheek nitpick.
In case you didn't notice.

I understand that the technology that any director shows in his movie is subject to the actual constraints of real world movie making technology that he has to work with.

In this case the calculus is pretty simple;
1979 Ridley Scott did not have CGI graphics and Special effects, Green Screen effects and Post-processing digital technology to work with; whereas 2011 Ridley Scott did,
Ergo more advanced looking and definitely more advanced ships in an (alleged) prequel.

I shall consider it . . .

Been a while since we've had some quality sci-fi. Looking forward to it.
