Tippi Hedren On Alfred Hitchcock Biopic 'The Girl': 'I Worry They Will Not Portray Me As Strong As I Was '

Tippi Hedren Alfred Hitchcock Sienna Miller

Last December, Sienna Miller was cast as actress Tippi Hedren in the Alfred Hitchcock biopic "The Girl." The film follows the director's obsessive relationship with Hedren while they filmed "The Birds" and "Marnie."

The real-life Tippi, now 82 years old, has already given her approval of the biopic and the casting of Miller. However, she still has a few worries about the project.

"I am thrilled Sienna is playing me. She is terrific for the part," Hedren told the Daily Mail. "[However] If I have one reservation about the film, it is that I worry they will not portray me as as strong a character as I was -- and still am. I had to be extremely strong to fight off Mr Hitchcock."

The odd dynamic between Hedren and Hitchcock has been well documented. The horror genius attempted to control Tippi, and was, as she describes, "insistent and obsessive." The two stopped working together after "Marnie," with Hedren quitting due to Alfred's behavior.

"He wanted to possess me completely... There were so many wonderful films we could have made together but it was all thrown away because of his mindless lust," she said.

"The Girl," starring Miller and Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock, will be broadcast on BBC Two sometime in 2012. In addition to "Girl," another Hitchcock biopic, "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho," starring Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh and Anthony Hopkins as Hitch, is set for a 2013 release date.

You can read more about Hedren and her thoughts on Hitchcock over on the Daily Mail.

I remember reading Hitchcock had the same fascination with Grace Kelly. She, too, spurned his attention and affection. There are similarities in their appearances.

I guess, he used his power, to sexually harrass, the women, he wanted to bed, blackmail.
u give a little, and I make you a star. I mean, I guess, he felt he had to, cause, without his genius, and power, he would get nothing. Please, just look at him Yuk!
Back then, a lot of these women, that wanted to become actress, would have to put out, or get out.
Not all, but a lot of them did. No laws to protect them back in the day.

Since when was Tippi Hedren a star? She was okay in one movie, , terrible in another, then disappeared. Everyone knows that Hitchcock was enamored of cool, unattainble blondes. Kim Novak, Grace Kelly, Janet Leigh to name but a few, including Tippi. None of them could act. Hitchcock was able to make great movies with inferior actors. North By Northwest is a prime example. I seriously doubt anyone would care about a movie about Tippi. I don't.

Hedren made quite a few movies and did much TV work; she is considered a star, although of yesteryear. So is her daughter, Melanie Griffith, although again, that was some years ago. I thought TH was far better than MG. Furthermore, Janet Leigh was a credible actress. Check her out in "The Manchurian Candidate" (the original). North by Northwest had inferior actors? I think you had better get a clue. North by Northwest featured Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint (absolutely wonderful in "On the Waterfront"), Leo G. Carroll, Martin Landau, and Jessie Royce Landis, to name but a few. And just because you don't care about a movie regarding TH, don't assume everyone feels the same way. You sound somewhat opinionated!

There are so many stories about Hitchcock. He was a great genius, though very difficult. (He treated actors like cattle for the most part, they say.) Toward the end of his life he had dementia, and he had the delusion that he was making another movie. The studios allowed him to walk around the sound stages, and basically played along with it. How many others would get that treatment?

I would like to see what Sean Connery has to say about this, as he was Tippi's co-star on "Marnie". Or ask Rod Taylor and Suzanne Pleshette who were in "The Birds". These people were there with Hitch and Tippi and are still around to talk about it!
10:47 PM on 03/13/2012
Both Rod Taylor and Suzanne Pleshette have passed away--check your facts before posting. . .

I think Rod Taylor would disagree with you. He is alive and well. He is in great shape and is 82 years old. So I think you had better check your facts before you tell someone else to check their facts. Just saying.

Isn't that odd -- I thought they were both dead, too. Maybe we live in an alternate universe. When I moved to Hollywood in the late 1960's I insulted Rod Taylor at a party and he put me in my place. Every time I see a Rod Taylor movie I writhe in embarrassment at the memory. I thought he was dead and my torment was over, but apparently not.

Suzanne Pleshette stole the movie.

I disagree. She was good but I don't think she stole the movie. Not when you have people like Jessica Tandy on board for the ride!

I don't think Hitchcock had a sexual obsession with Hedren, but rather one of "My creation" and Possession. She was a no body until he gave her this part and had planned on featuring her in many more of his films.

Once she showed Independence, which Stardom brings, his obsession went to the crazy-side, even stalking.

I've read he was a prankster, and enjoyed doing off the wall things at dinner parties. Serving green mashed potatoes for instance. His mind was deep and certainly danced to a different beat.

Many other blond beauties have worked with him. Grace Kelly, and Doris Day, but there circumstances were different and I believe his obsessions did not extend to them.

I believe she is truthful in this allegation, and has witnesses to back the facts.
He blackballed her career, and she turned her passions to animals .I don't view her as weak, just passive and not into drama.
At 82 she looks great and I'm sure her story will come out fine.
