After an ever-ballooning budget, the first taste of Gore Verbinski's "Lone Ranger" (Hi-yo, Silver) has moseyed on into the twittersphere.

The film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted the first photo of the project, as though to say, oh, this is happening, alright.

Here we see the masked crusader, played by the caroonishly handsome Armie Hammer, and a very made up Johnny Depp as his trusty companion, Tonto. (And, I guess, his trusty companion, that rather lethargic looking bird perched on his head.)

The most-recent revamp of the Americana classic has encountered some major of hiccups -- the biggest being that it was almost scrapped last summer, before cooler heads -- and smarter accountants -- prevailed, and the film's budget was cut down.

The film's 10-year wind up may prove worth the wait, Depp and Hammer are joined by a strong supporting cast of Helena Bonham Carter, William Fichtner and Tom Wilkinson.

"The Lone Ranger" hits theaters May 31, 2013.

Both salubrious and lugubrious concurrently.

So this is J. Depp bringing 'dignity' to the role of Tonto? Yikes! They probably won't even call the guy Tonto in the film for fear of offending the easily-offended. Like when they (sorta) remade the film 'Walking Tall' yet refused to let The Rock have the original name "Buford Pusser".

I just don't get it. The Lone Ranger has been a success since, what, the 1930's? So why does these movie guys think they can improve it? Stick to the story, the look, the legend! There's a reason it has been around for so long! Not just the Lone Ranger, but any comic book, radio show, etc., character. If it's been a success story for decades, don't f#*k it up! That's a no brainer! How could you possibly improve on it??? These characters are heroes to some for a reason. You can't change or improve that. This movie will suck, just as the Green Hornet with Seth Rogan did. Give me a break! What are these people thinking??? All they're doing is ensuring there won't be another movie about these characters!

Johnny Depp looks pretty funny in that picture. I can already see how he's going to play it.

As much as I like to relive those "thrilling days of yesteryear" these cinematic ventures seem to always fall flat, never quite living up to our childhood memories. Does anybody remember the last "Lone Ranger" disaster? And, now we have Johnny Depp as Tonto? Please spare me. Don't get me wrong, I love Depp's work but this has all the makings of a joke. Personally, I'd rather go to one of the old vintage TV sites and watch the original series. As campy as those episodes look when seen today I'm betting they'll still look better than this.

I am going to assume that this is supposed to be like a comic attempt at the Lone Ranger. If it's not I have no intentions of seeing this. I was very lucky as an adult to meet and get an autograph of "The Lone Ranger" Clayton Moore. This man was my idol as a small child and he did not disappoint. This seems to put a black mark on the memory of Mr Moore's Lone Ranger and that of Jay Silverheels as Tonto. They stood for good and doing the right thing compared to some of the "idols" that kids have today.
