'Zero Dark Thirty': Kathryn Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden Movie Facing Protests In India

U.S. government officials aren't the only ones giving Kathryn Bigelow fits over her upcoming Osama bin Laden film. According to Reuters, the director, who's currently in India shooting the feature, is facing backlash from local Hindus over making the set area appear Pakistani.

The film, "Zero Dark Thirty," which follows the capture of the world's most wanted terrorist, was originally going to shoot in Pakistan, where bin Laden was captured. However, after being denied access by the government, Bigelow moved production to the Indian town of Chandigarh. There, the crew has designed the area to look like the Paskistan town of Lahore, including with extras dressed in Pakistani garb.

Reuters reports that protesters were seen shouting slogans and arguing with the cast and crew.

This isn't the first trouble Bigelow has run into while attempting to make this film. In January, the CIA opened an official investigation into the project over whether the Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Mark Boal were leaked classified material regarding the recent capture and assassination of the late al Qaeda leader.

"Zero Dark Thirty" is set to hit theaters some time in 2012.

I assume you mean India in this case. Well that show just how ignorant you really are. India HATES Pakistan more than the US ever could. Seriously. Look it up. Here, I did it for you : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India%E2%80%93Pakistan_relation

They were mad because they were trying to make their city look like Pakistan, and had actors in traditional pakistani dress. That is what pissed them off.

Capture of Bin Laden? I don't remember him being captured. He was gunned down on sight by Navy Seal Team 6. Assissinated? Really? Terrorsists are not assassinated. They are eliminated.

Get over Republicans. Obama got him Bush failed. To dman lazy to try. Or perhaps fear of failure. A boy ,the shrub, who failed in life at everything.

First, it isn't a party thing. Second, Obama did not get him. Prove to us beyond any shadow of a doubt that it actually went down as you were told. Of course, if you believe it's true, then I know a few people who would like to sell you some bridges...

First of all, President Bush got the mastermind behind 9-11 when Khalid Shaikh Mohammed was caught in Pakistan. OBL was just a mouth piece for the al Qaeda network. OBL talked a big game but spent most of his time on the bench. Bin Laden’s main contributions to 9/11 were money and volunteers. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed on the other hand was the Michael Jordan of Terrorism.

"In at least one important way, though, his boasts are accurate. Mohammed, not Osama bin Laden, was the essential figure in the 9/11 plot. The attacks were his idea, carried out under his direct command. Mohammed has said that he went so far as to resist swearing allegiance to bin Laden and Al Qaeda until after the attacks, so that he could continue pursuing them if Al Qaeda lost courage."

Also, please note, The official F.B.I. wanted poster never mentioned the 9-11 attacks & bin Laden

This woman is clearly not a genius why would she think making this film in India would be a good idea? Didn't it occur to her that some might be offended?

Right and the atmosphere, architecture general location is close. If I wanted to make a movie about problems in mainland China, would I shoot in Indonesia or Taiwan?

Hey Hollywood, having been to India, the one thing you DO NOT do is defile the Hindu faith. You really need to hire people who understand the local culture, and not those whose only reason for living would be the almighty buck!
03:30 AM on 03/04/2012
Explain how the Hindu faith is "defiled" by this film? Certainly a man with your vast experience in India should be able to answer this simple question.
03:46 AM on 03/04/2012
Well maybe your problem shouldn't lie with Bigelow but with India's government, who gave them permission to film there in the first place. If they're so offended they shouldn't have allowed the filming to take place, but as you referred to "the almighty buck" was involved. It goes both ways.

Of course India would take the money for this movie, based in Pakistan! They hate each other. Its a great insult. This, of course, doesn't defile hinduism!

Why is anyone making a movie about that evil spon of satan- Bin Laden? I surely don't want to see it, even if its about his death! UGH! It was hideous enough to have to live through that devil's horrifying reign of terror!! This Bigelow woman must get off on the lowest, most ugly life forms on the planet!!!! Sick and disgusting!!
02:07 AM on 03/04/2012
It's not sick and disgusting, get a grip. It is now a part of our history and always will be, for better or worse. Should writers and directors limit their movie making to puppies, rainbows, and unicorns? How can you bash someone for making a movie based on true events that have had such a profound effect on this country? How many movies have been made about World War I, World War II, the Holocaust, Vietnam, 9/11, etc? They are very dark times in our history, but they are just that: History. If you don't want to feel sick and disgusted, stick to movies like Toy Story and Shrek.

well said. why someone would want to make a movie of the devil and turn him into a martyr is beyond me i suppose what my uncel tells me is true GOD MADE MAN MAN MADE MONEY MONEY MADE MAN GO MADE.
