'Making Of Psycho': Scarlett Johansson Cast As Janet Leigh In Alfred Hitchcock Bio

Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho

First Posted: 03/ 2/2012 8:18 am Updated: 03/ 2/2012 8:18 am

Scarlett Johansson will lick the stamps. The blonde bombshell has signed on to play Hollywood icon Janet Leigh in Sacha Gervasi's "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho," reports Variety. Not surprisingly, the film focuses on the making of "Psycho," Hitchcock's 1960 horror classic.

Based on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello, "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho" has quite the roster of talent involved. In addition to Johansson, the film stars Anthony Hopkins as Hitch himself, Helen Mirren as his wife, Alma Reville, and James D'Arcy as Anthony Perkins.

"Making of Psycho" has taken a long road to the screen. Hopkins and Gervasi ("Anvil! The Story of Anvil") have been attached for over a year, but the project itself was originally set up back in 2007.

According to Variety, the role of Janet Leigh will give Johansson a meaty career boost; the trade paper's sources compare it to Michelle Williams's lead role in "My Week With Marilyn," which scored the actress an Oscar nomination. Whether Johansson will be as lucky remains to be seen.

D'Arcy is also a new addition to the cast, but his role as Perkins is apparently small. Not that it matters: dude looks so much like Anthony Perkins that it's kinda scary. He can just stand in the background, not hurting flies and such.

Wait. So they are making a fictional movie based on a non-fiction book about the making of a fictional movie inspired by a non-fiction event? My head just exploded.

Does anyone bother to read anymore? The article aside, even the headline makes it quite clear that this is NOT a remake (they already tried that in the late 90s, anyhow). It is a film about the MAKING of Psycho, a behind-the-scenes bio-pic based on a non-fiction novel. Good grief.

Another remake? They already remade this movie a few years ago. They did it in color and they had Vince Vaughn in the Norman Bates role.

This sounds like it could be really cool.

Hitch was an interesting character and was very hard on the women he directed.

It's not a remake or a sequel. It's a film based on the MAKING of the film Psycho.
