While Francis Ford Coppola first acquired the rights over thirty years ago, the movie wound up being helmed by Walter Salles ("The Motorcycle Diaries") and is finally, finally on its way. Salles confirmed that "On the Road" is in its final stages and is set for for release in France this May.
For those not familiar with Kerouac's work, it chronicles a series of road trips that Sal Paradise (Kerouac's alter-ego) took with his free-spirited friends during the height of the beat movement. Riley will be playing Paradise alongside an impressive supporting cast of Hedlund Dean Moriarty, Stewart, Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Tom Sturridge, Danny Morgan, Alice Braga and Elisabeth Moss.
There is no definite American release date, but the French debut would sure be convenient for a Cannes premiere. Take a look at the newly released poster below and head over to the movie's Facebook page for other promo shots.
