Richard Dreyfuss Oscar Interview: Actor Doesn't 'Go To Movies Anymore,' Gets Political (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/27/2012 1:20 pm Updated: 03/ 1/2012 3:30 pm

Despite the fact that Richard Dreyfuss was out and about after the 84th Academy Awards, he wasn't really in the mood for celebrating.

Dreyfuss begrudgingly discussed winning an Oscar at age 30, for 1977's "Goodbye Girl." "It made the rest of my life longer, until someone else younger won," he said. (Huh?)

When the interviewer -- mentally loosening his bow tie -- asked if there were any young actors who excited him, Dreyfuss ruffled his brows and said, "I don't go to movies anymore. I don't really go to movies," he shrugged. "And I'm busy."

Busy, indeed! The actor, who "is trying to save the country and win the Nobel," suddenly got very "evil politician" a la his role in "The American President." He inched closer to the camera and said that he wants everyone in America to re-sign the Constitution's Preamble "just as a reaffirmation of who we are."

I wish I knew, Rich. I wish I knew.

Before anyone makes judgements about Richard try starting with an understanding of what his "Challenge" was really about and who the Koch Brothers represent. He was neither drunk or nuts - pissed is a better evaluation.

The Preamble - "We The People". For the last thirty years Billionaires - like the Koch's have been "Buying the Government" they want. {60 Billion and counting - current gas prices add a quarter or so to their wealth everytime you or I buy a gallon of gas - Speculators in an uncontrolled energy futures market - Dodd Frank is their nemisis [soon to go into effect] The Keystone Pipeline is their Baby [Obama opposes the deregulation and environmental disaster that goes with building their pipeline.]

The Billionaire's club owns Grover Norquist - "The numero uno Lobbyist in Chief" for Rich Folks. Norquist holds Tax Pledges signed by over 90% of GOP Legislators. Republican voting on tax issues is dictated by our American Billionaire's Club with the Kochs sitting in the CEO chair.
Their reading of the preamble - 'We The Rich" - the people - "let them eat cake".

There is an "Aristocracy of Wealth" extant in the United States that has manipulated policy through their money and control of GOP legislators. Romney's pledge to repeal the "Estate Tax" [he calls it the "Death Tax"} the only tax paid only by the obscenely wealthy. Repeal puts 50 Million in Mitts personal estate and adds SEVENTEEN POINT FOUR BILLION to the Koch's

Richard just needed a bigger bow-tie.

He refused to play the vapid "Hollywood - Bread and Circuses" game. Bravo Richard !

Clearly, by his answers, Dreyfuss was telling the interviewer that he was a pest and that his questions were inane.

That's Dreufiss being sarcastic and refusing to be a "filler" for the guy with a microphone. He wasn't there to promote anyone, especially himself.

I don't think he's changed a bit and don't see anything wrong with his response.
05:02 PM on 02/28/2012
Wonder what his responce would be if he didn't have all that money in the bank.
04:52 PM on 02/28/2012
He's gone off the deep end.
04:45 PM on 02/28/2012

The preamble - "WE THE PEOPLE"

The Koch Brothers own Grover Norquist - Their Lobbyist - Grover has the "Pledges of over 90% of our GOP legislators making him the de-facto dictator of the GOP vote on every tax issue. The Koch Brothers interpretation of the preamble - We The Rich - Government of the Rich - By The Rich - and For the Rich.

Richard was neither Drunk or Nuts - He is pissed about what the multi-billionaires have done to co-opt the government.

The last time I saw Dreyfuss in anything was his role in RED --and he was awful! He overplayed it terribly and gave a really cringe-worthy performance. His latest film is Piranha 3D —a certain blockbuster! No wonder he's so grumpy. In his IMDb bio, it says “Frequently plays characters who see themselves as intellectuals”. That explains why he is so DEEP.

Well yea Sigrid. He is just a horrid actor. I am sure you are much better at what you do. I bet it makes you feel good judging others based on their political ideas. Does it make you feel DEEP?

Dreyfuss used to be an excellent actor and, in many interviews I’ve seen, showed a quirky, witty sense of humor. He has since become a curmudgeon and a cranky old man. I'd be a little more impressed with your snarky comment if you had actually read and comprehended my post. Kindly point out where I judged him based on his political ideas. And, compared to Dreyfuss’ performance in RED, I am much better at what I do. Since you have no idea what I do, that’s quite the lame observation. Does it make you feel SHALLOW? I doubt it.

I thought he was wonderful in "Red." And, when you grow up, you might find yourself a little jaded, as well, at the shallowness and selfishness of America's youth, corporate greed, so-called blockbuster movies that only cater to the low-intelligence and inattention of most of Americans today for the sake of profit and not for the sake of creating art. Richard Dreyfuss IS deep, which is probably why he is, as you say, cranky.
