2013 Oscars: Hosts The Academy Awards Should Consider For Its 85th Year

First Posted: 02/27/2012 3:20 pm Updated: 02/27/2012 5:37 pm

The 84th annual Academy Awards will likely go down as a moderate success. After all, the telecast was the shortest in 30 years, earned better ratings than 2011, and happened without controversy with only some controversy! Not bad, Academy!

But! If the 84th annual Academy Awards were part of a rebuilding year, then it's time to blow out all the stops for the 2013 Oscars. To wit: don't even entertain the thought of bringing Billy Crystal and his inappropriate Borscht Belt banter back for a tenth time; find some new(ish) blood.

Ahead, the 11 people the Academy Awards should consider to host the 2013 Oscars. Movies, now more than ever, y'all!

Agree! Best host since Bob Hope has been Ellen.

Louis Black. Granted half of the audience might walk out but it would be hilarious.

Give the blackface faux scandal a rest. Crystal has done this impersonation since his days on SNL. We're not talking Amos 'n' Andy here.

As for the list, Rogen is not made for hosting. Just a bad idea. However, Chris Rock could be good as would Hugh Jackman and/or Neil Patrick Harris. Watching Jimmy Fallon giggle his way through every punchline would be a nightmare

People to host: Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Hanks, Octavia Spencer & Melissa McCarthy, Steve Carrell, Hugh Jackman & Anne Hathaway (most of last year's problems were not her fault), and maybe, in a few years, Emma Stone. The host needs to be able to ad-lib appropriately and keep things moving.

Billy Crystal makes good satiric movie montages, but his hosting abilities have really gone downhill over the years.

Tom Hanks would be AMAZING. I also second Steve Carrell.

And not necessarily Octavia Spencer, but I think the idea of having a previous-year's winner as a host is a great idea.
