Academy Awards 2012: Rooney Mara, Ryan Seacrest, Sacha Baron Cohen And More Awkward Oscar Red Carpet Moments (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/26/2012 10:16 pm Updated: 02/26/2012 11:20 pm

The 2012 Oscars red carpet was full of high fashion and A-list actors and actresses -- but it wasn't without it's uncomfortable moments. And most of them revolved around Ryan Seacrest.

In true Lisbeth Salander form, Rooney Mara peppered her responses to the E! host with one too many pauses and "ums," Milla Jovovich pointed out that Seacrest knows way too much about women's dresses, and Sacha Baron Cohen "accidentally" spilled an urn containing "Kim Jong-il's ashes" all over the busy host.

Which red carpet moments made you cringe? Watch above!

Mara looked like Olive Oyl. That dress was completely unflattering. She's a good actress but seemingly infected with that "I'm way too cool for this" thing that young, suddenly successful actresses get.

What are you talking about HP? The only really awkward thing in that video was the barrage of ads. Oh wait, there is one thing --Ryan Seacrest's utter lack of personality. That can be awkward.

WTF, HuffPo? I have to watch a 30 second ad in between EVERY interview? It's not enough there are ads in the headline, ads on the sidelines, but now we have to watch the same 30 second commercial over and over for 10 second clips?

She's a good actress, from what I've seen, anyway. But she needs to realize that when she is at one of these things, she is at work. You're literally living a dream, smile, show a little gratitude, and stop being such a pill.

Look at Clooney, does she think he never gets asked a stupid question. She should take a lesson. "I don't think you ever get used to it" she says... who does she think she is?

Whatever, that concludes my morning rant =)

Rooney Mara gave Seacrest the answer he deserved for his incredibly dumb question about whether the Terrence Malick movie she is starring in opposite Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale is any good since the movie doesn't even start shooting until this coming fall.

The mindless haters are out in force on this thread.

Sad.

Her answer to Seacrest's dumb question about whether the Terrence Malick film she is starring in opposite Ryan Gosling and Christian (Lawless), which doesn't even start shooting until next fall is any good went right over your head.

Rooney doesn't suffer fools gladly.

Yeah, just ignore stalker white knight guy. He went after me months ago for something totally innocuous regarding the Dragon Tattoo movie. He probably sleeps with a copy of Catcher in the Rye under his pillow.

Baron Cohen is somewhat popular because he's always making fool of himself. But that's ok for him as long as he's a laughingstock for some.... creepy for others. I myself never laught AT him or, WITH him.

That prank... I'm conflicted. On the one hand, it's kind of a d!ckish thing to do.

On the other hand, it's brilliant. A lot of people present have an inflated view of just how important this event is (hint: not at all), and judging by how Seacrest was visibly trying to contain his anger, I'd say he's probably one of them. Maybe it'll teach him some humility. It's a shame he didn't get to dump ashes on Meryl Streep as well...
11:28 AM on 02/27/2012
That stunt didn't sit well with me, not because it disrupted the normal stodginess of Oscar night, but because I know if I had picked out the perfect outfit (worth thousands of dollars no less that I either bought or borrowed in trust) and planned to look my best all night around some of the world's biggest stars I'd wanna pop someone in the mouth who spilled a can of Bisquick all over me, making me dusty and smelling like day old pancakes the entire night.

Cohen just isn't funny to me, though I've tried. Don't get him. I feel like he's an unfunny Kaufman knockoff.

Seacrest no doubt did spend a lot of time and money trying to look his best, but that's exactly why I think it's brilliant, though. It serves as a reminder that not only are these awards meaningless, but so also is the celebrity status bestowed on all these "stars". They're just people.

But I do agree about Cohen. I'm really not a fan of his style of humor. He was pretty good in Hugo, though.

I wish interviewers would refrain from comparing stars to another star. Rooney is a good actress, but she is no Audrey Hepburn in looks. Audrey had a square face with a realy strong jawline and brown almond eyes that spread across her whole face. She was not boney, she had a perfectly proportioned little body to die for, and obviously the interviewer never saw her.

If you're referring to Rooney Mara, her options were fairly limited. Her hair was cropped pretty short for the Dragon Tattoo role, and I'm assuming it just hasn't had time to grow back out yet.
