Christopher Plummer Oscars

After over five decades in film, actor Christopher Plummer can finally call himself an Oscar winner. The 82-year-old star won Best Supporting Actor at the 84th annual Academy Awards on Sunday night for his performance in "Beginners." It's a historic victory for Plummer, as he becomes the oldest actor to ever win an Oscar.

"You're only two years older than me, darling; where have you been all my life?" Plummer said while accepting the award. With wins at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and even the Independent Spirit Awards, Plummer was the odds-on choice to take home the trophy.

The venerable actor -- who starred in everything from "The Sound of Music" to "Up" before scoring Oscar gold by playing a terminally sick man who recently came out as homosexual in "Beginners" -- defeated fellow old-timer Max Von Sydow ("Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"), Nick Nolte ("Warrior"), Kenneth Branagh ("My Week With Marilyn") and Jonah Hill ("Moneyball") in the category.

His only other Oscar nomination came in 2009, when he was up for Best Supporting Actor after playing Tolstoy in "The Last Station."

Its great to see him win after all these years. He is so beloved for his role as the Captain in the Sound of Music. He called it the Sound of Mucus for many years. He has mellowed in his feelings of the movie.

The janitor was the only one who didn't thank Martin Scorcese. Too bad he didn't win an Oscar for directing. Why did I know in advance that Christopher Plummer was going to win an Oscar? Was it because he played a gay guy? Knew he would win, like Sean Penn before him. They gave an Oscar for a film from Iran?? And the guy said something about peace and respect....or something like that? We can always believe someone from Iran. Israel and Poland aren't politically correct for an award. Leave it to Hollywood. Also they threw in a Pakistani documentary for our Muslim sisters. For the first time ever Angelina Jolie didn't look good. Just to keep the streak going, Billy Crystal gave a jab to the Republican candidates.

George Clooney didn't need a trophy, he already has one. Billy Crystal said it right about a bunch of millionaires giving each other gold trophies. Also, did you know that, along with Obama (who is also rich), that they all hate the rich. Go figure. I guess it is all the OTHER rich, not them. In keeping with Hollywood an actor from a movie about an "undocumented" (illegal) immigrant was nominated.

Duh, big surprise? All an actor has to do is play a gay roll in Hollywood and you will win an oscar. No surprise there. Typical Hollywood agenda.
Oh, of course the silent film will win too. Another movie nobody went to see.

Now what has 'GAY" to with this ? I guess you to not like Gays ? And I am not Gay if you wonder !
09:09 AM on 02/27/2012
Because Plummer played an elderly man who finds out he is gay, or at least that is what I read about the movie.
As for me not liking gays, that is untrue. I have a neice and nephew who are both gay and I love them the same.
I am just tired of Hollywood, television, and the media always trying to shove this style into our lifestyle. Only 8.3% of America is gay, but you would think it is 50%.
04:36 PM on 02/27/2012
There are nearly 313,000.000 Million People in the US . You say about 8.3 % are Gay ? That would make 25,979.000 Millions of them are Gay . Needless to say that is a lot of People to whom many Folks will not want to give any rights here in the USA. Unlike other country's . Indeed many would like to call them 'Second Class People " And given the currant GOP make-up that's what they are pushing for right now . To my thinking we are all Americans, yes ? and should have all the same rights . Take care !

It's nice that he finally won one but I still think it should have ben Nick Nolte
11:26 PM on 02/26/2012
All Nolte has to do is play a homosexual and he will win. That's the Hollywood agenda.

To see a man driven by his art, finally win the greatest award for it is nice to see after so long.
11:14 PM on 02/26/2012
What was so surprising about Plummer winning? He should have played a gay person years ago because everyone knows this is the Hollywood agenda. They just keep shoving this at us year after year. There is only 8.3% of the population in America that is gay but you would think it was the majority.
Oh, and the silent film will win too. Another film like Brokeback Mountain that won that nobody went to see. I hope there is a glutony of silent films coming out so I won't have to worry about anyone paying to see.
Hollywood makes me sick with their stupid agendas.

Yeah ok give it a break. I agree though the gays won't be happy until they set policy for everyone, both in Hollywood and Washington D.C.

Well its about time to reward this man with an oscar, way overdue. He should never have had to wait this long. Shame on the Academy........
11:28 PM on 02/26/2012
All he had to do was play a homosexual years ago and he would have won. Its the Hollywood agenda, just keep shoving those roles and moveis at us even though only 8.3% of American are gay.

Bravo Mr Plummer! Great performance, great film. So cool that you were able to invest your character with such everyday humanity & decency. I wish more people would see it.
