'The Artist' Wins Best Picture? Joan Collins May Have Spoiled The Academy Awards

First Posted: 02/22/2012 12:06 pm Updated: 02/22/2012 12:06 pm

Not like you need further proof that "The Artist" is a shoo-in for Best Picture, but Oscar voter Joan Collins may have actually just ruined the non-surprise you are about to experience on Sunday at the Academy Awards

"Oh, yes," Collins said when asked about any Oscar predictions, "but I'm not going to tell you."

She then added, "I'm a voter, so I'm not allowed to say. But I think it's called 'The Artist.'"

Collins is part of the old-guard Oscar voters that have come under fire since a Los Angeles Times expose on Sunday highlighted the advanced age and lack of diversity among Academy members. Per the study, Oscar voters are 94 percent white, 77 percent male and have a median age of 62. Based on that make-up, conventional wisdom is that "The Artist" -- a silent and black and white film about an aging silent movie star pushed aside by the advent of talkies -- will take home many awards on Sunday night, including Best Picture.

See if Collins did indeed spoil the big award by tuning into the Oscars on Sunday night starting at 7 p.m. EST on ABC.

P.S. It will also be the first time that 2 African American actresses will go home with the gold. Bets anyone?

Another completely ridiculous and misleading headline. She has one vote.

Based upon Joan Collins' big mouth, she should have her pass and deny her attending the Oscars. Regardless of what she may say, very old Joan made the statement on purpose to get herself some much sought after attention. So give her some media attention by telling her to stay home and watch on television if she's interested.

If "The Artist" wins best picture, it will not be the first time or the last that the Academy snubbed over better pictures/actors/actresses/directors etc.... The Academy would do best by restructuring who the members of the voting pool. They might also be served well by doing what similar organizations have done, give some of the voting power to the general population. I would say give like 20 percent of the vote to the masses. This would draw some interest back to the Oscars. Just some thoughts to the Academy.

You must be REALLY desperate for a story! Since when does a 'voter' know the end results? You're R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S!!! You should be ashamed. Go away! Hide under a rock, right now!

Joan Collins has always been very witty. I'm glad to see she still catches on to subtleties, even if you don't, mjames and lawa. Maybe you two should try on the Depends and go eat some crow.

It's the industry's own award show - they can run it as badly and as stupidly as they want. To get upset over this is very much like wandering into your local McDonald's and complaining about their Employee of the Month.

Almost 6,000 members vote divided into different groups representing different parts of film making . So even if one member were to tell who they voted for it wouldn't even hint as to how the other 5,999 voted .

"But I think it's called The Artist?" Like most of America Joan just admitted she never ever saw the freaking film. But she voted for it! Out rageous! Blacklist Kirsten Dunst and Mel Gibson is ok but having an old TV hack like Collins deciding the fates of directors .,..it makes no sense...unless -- is she? Oh brother! More bias!

She was trying to be coy with her statement, I'm sure. She didn't admit she never saw the film. Sounds more like she was trying to cutely avoid flat out saying a title.

She would have no idea what film won Best Picture, unless she works for the accounting firm that counts the votes.

And she would have no vote for Best Director. Members of the Actors' Branch vote for Actors; Directors' Branch members vote for Director, and so on. The only category everyone votes in is Best Picture.

The only "bias" is that she has an opinion. She has no influence beyond that.
