'Amazing Spider-Man' First Clip: Andrew Garfield Can't Charm Doorman (VIDEO)

If you haven't been busy participating in the Mark of the Spider-Man viral marketing package that Sony is slowly rolling out, you might have missed the first clip from "The Amazing Spider-Man." What adventures await new Spidey (Andrew Garfield) in the summertime reboot of the beloved comic franchise? Does the first clip highlight some Spidey-versus-Lizard tête-à-têtes? Nope! But it does feature Peter Parker trying to get into Gwen Stacy's swank Manhattan apartment building and being stymied by a power-hungry doorman.

Watch the clip above, and then compare that doorman with Craig Robinson's iconic "Knocked Up" doorman (link very NSFW) to see which is more doorman-y. "Doorman!"

"The Amazing Spider-Man" is in theaters on July 3.

I'm a hard sell for a 'reboot' of Spiderman anyway considering the last one came out just 5 years ago, but man. Why they would release this crappy/boring scene first is beyond me.

They had better start finding a whole lot better scene to promote this new franchise, or it'll tank like a lead Zeppelin. As an aside: This is how Lead Zeppelin got their name. The record company said that their music would go over like a Lead Zeppelin.

What a boring clip and a boring actor.

I happen to know Tobey Maguire, and you sir, are no Tobey Maguire.

Umm, don't see Garfield as a good fit for Spiderman. He doesn't have that Tobey McGuire innocent (couldn't-possibly-be-spiderman) look that made him an icon in the Spiderman series.

That's stupid-- why would he have his costume in a BAG that he carries around with him? The superhero rule about spandex costumes is wear UNDER the clothes--- learn from Clark Kent, dudes.

About as exciting as watching paint dry. Seems to me, if it's an action movie, they should have shown an action clip. Doesn't really make me wanna go see it.

I was thinking the same thing. The only way they could have shown a more boring and uninformative clip would be by making a trailer for the closing credits.
