Best Oscar Moments: David Niven Streaker, Woody Allen, Christopher Reeve (VIDEO)

Part of the requisite countdown to Oscar night is taking a trip down memory lane -- revisiting the moments that supplant any awards won or teary tributes.

Here's the proof: the 1974 Academy Awards might have fallen into obscurity if it weren't for the chutzpah (yiddish pun!) of that naked dude running past David Niven.

So to honor all the best memories of Oscar's past, Moviefone took the liberty of mashing up the most memorable moments of the past 85 years. Take a look at the video above.

I remember the streaker in 1974. It was a blur but hilarious.

The network did not catch him in time. It was a fun tv moment.

You did'nt the clip of David Niven and the streaker. Mr Niven mention something that person's "short comings" . In my mind that makes it a classic.

A bit wittier than that: "Isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?"

Too bad it was a publicity stunt, planned out, including Niven's observation, in advance.

hey, i just posted something similar...and now you say it was planned?? I'm crushed.

My Favorite Oscar Moment was when Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin finally got an Academy Award. He was nominated for an Academy Award 20 years earlier, but....

Definitely! It was wonderful to see this genius receive his well deserved award! Love you Charlie Chaplin!

Why did the video show more of the worst of the moments and only a half nanosecond of the best?

And yet today we get a five minute delay because of abreast being exposed in a "Wardrobe malfunction." It's like we've gone backward into being more repressive than we were in 1974. That's sad to me.

It's not so much "we" going backwards, but the small minority of bluenoses making more and more noise and the hypocritical "family values" crowd that kow tows to them. Can you imagine an All In The Family, Maude, Sanford and Son or Chico and The Man on network TV in 2012?

The Acadamy Award Show has evolved into a long, boring televised celebrity party. Do we really need al the fluffed up music, bad jokes and 'look-backs' at past Oscar winners? No! Just present the awards. Maybe then we'll watch. Thank goodness for DVR's!
