Dan Aykroyd On 'Ghostbusters 3': 'The Script Must Be Perfect'

Dan Aykroyd

The last news involving "Ghostbusters 3," included Bill Murray allegedly shredding Dan Aykroyd's script and sending it back to him with a note stating, "No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts."

However, in a recent webchat with Empire, Aykroyd told viewers that those Murray rumors are completely false, while at the same admitting Bill's reluctance to shoot another sequel.

"Bill Murray is not capable of such behavior. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in 'Ghostbusters 3' has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work."

So does that mean there will be a "Ghostbusters 3" with a new Peter Venkman? Aykroyd doesn't say. However, he does surprisingly guarantee that the film won't be done without Rick Moranis' character, Louis Tully. "If we can get the script to 'Ghostbusters 3' right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant."

Yes to Moranis. No to Murray. (Is Chevy Chase available? Someone's got to take over smartass duty.)

The more news involving "Ghostbusters 3," the weirder it gets.

If they can't get the original cast back, in at least some type of role, then they need to leave it alone. The first two were good, but it would be easy to end up making this a C film headed directly to DVD, not even BluRay.

No one wants a Ghost Buster with out Bill. He was everyones favorite character. When you think ghostbusters you think Peter Venkman

Baby Oscar would be about 22-23 years old....possibly a replacement for Dr. Peter Venkman....

I bet BIll did send it back shredded but it was more as a joke. Just think about it. It takes time for him to put all that paper in the scredder, get a box, send it back. it would have been quicker to just say no but this was funnier. Dont you remember not too long ago when he was at a golf thing and he throw a NFL players superbowl ring into the stands? he is just goofy that way

They're all old and in real life they probably have grown children so why not do a sequel with their characters grown children? They could even have a daughter or two as the new ghostbusters. At any rate sequels always suck whether they use the original actors or not. I challenge any one to show a sequel that was even as good if not better than the original it will never happen although some of the youngins who never saw the original within it's time period (all movies are dated no matter what you change) might say the new one is better.

Godfather 1 and 2, although I liked 1 better but they were both awesome.

Please don't even try to do this without Bill or Rick. It will ruin the franchise as the last 'Blues Brothers' did.

I love Ghostbusters and I love Dan.. still I hope this movie never happens. Ghostbusters II was a bit of a stinker as compaired to the first movie. It's also been way too long and while I know that the script was supposed to introduce new Ghostbusters, who cares about them? I'd rather see Ray, Egon, Peter, and Winston instead of them making up new characters using most of the not too funny comediens out there now. Honestly? If Dan really wants to bring back the Ghostbusters, he should do what some cartoons from the 80's have. Go to animation or even CGI. Reintroduce the boys to this cartoon generation and market all those nice toys and everything. Most cartoons today can be a little more edgy, which would let the Ghostbusters add the sort of spook that it needs. ( as long as they don't make Slimer the main character, AGAIN. ) The Ghostbusters comic is great, it shows that they can live on and don't need the big screen in order to do it. That's just me though. I remember the 'Real Ghostbusters' and that cartoon was great. I know 'Extreme Ghostbusters' was out there too, but that was some horrible PC Ghostbusters. Etiher way, even if they go to animation I'd be watching it alongside my kids no problem!

That being said...I think if they try to do 3 it'll be a train wreck...but I hope I'm wrong. It either has to rock or not happen...*crosses fingers*.

Don't waste our time...It was bad enough having to look at Bill's get up at Pebble Beach this weekend...He's done...

Rick is not going to be interested, he has been retired for years and why would he want to come back? I wish Dan would shred the script himself and forget about it and move on

I just don't see a Ghostbusters without the Peter Venkman character. If they were make the movie without the character or worse recast the roll it would be the final nail in the coffin for the Ghostbusters franchise. Just get the script right and Bill Murray will sign on. If it's not right then don't make the movie. Nobody wants to watch garbage.

Actually, I would pay to see those two in any movie. Portly or not, they are very talented and make us all laugh.
