'Blade Runner' Sequel: Harrison Ford Reportedly In 'Early Talks'

Harrison Ford

Why not start your week off with a hilarious bit of rumor and speculation? According to TwitchFilm, Harrison Ford has begun "early talks" with the proper parties to star in the non-sequel maybe-sequel to "Blade Runner" that Ridley Scott is directing.

In the 1982 cult classic "Blade Runner," Ford played Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner (future cop!) who hunts down four replicants in 2019 Los Angeles. Last summer, Alcon Entertainment revealed it was planning another chapter in the "Blade Runner" story, though likely without Ford.

"In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott," Alcon Entertainment president Andrew Kosove told the Los Angeles Times in August. "But if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."

The "reinvention" of "Blade Runner" wouldn't be the first time Scott flirted with not totally reinventing the continuation of one of his famed sci-fi projects; he's been quoted as saying "Prometheus" has plenty of "Alien" DNA in its final ten minutes, this despite the film being sold as a non-prequel to "Alien."

"Prometheus" is out in theaters this June; don't expect to see "Blade Runner 2" in theaters much before 2014.

A sequel is a bad idea. However, if Ridley Scott wants to "reinvent" it and interpret Do Androids... onto the screen in a different way, I'd be OK with that. But remember that PDK was heavily involved with Blade Runner up until the time of his death. Blade Runner is probably as close to his vision as any film version of any of his stories barring A Scanner Darkly, which was almost an exact match to the novel.

Some movies should be off limits from sequels. Many think Blade Runner is the best Sci_Fi film of all time, why mess with that? Run out of new ideas? Why not remake Dune, or another film that totally sucked?

Why ruin such a great movie with an unnecessary sequel.
