Hollywood's Human Growth Hormone Problem: Are Stars Taking It To Stay Young?

Sylvester Stallone

First Posted: 02/ 1/2012 12:03 pm Updated: 02/ 3/2012 2:31 pm

In 2007, actor Sylvester Stallone was caught by Australian custom agents with 48 vials of Jintropin, a human growth hormone (HGH). The drug is best known for being used by professional athletes, mainly baseball players, who need help recovering from injury or building muscle. HGH has been banned by Major League Baseball since 2005.

However, in the March issue of Vanity Fair, writer Ned Zeman says the problem extends way past the baseball diamond and into the high-end establishment of the Hollywood film industry. As one talent manager told him, "any actor over 50 you're still seeing with a ripped stomach and veins in his forearms is probably taking H.G.H."

So, how much of an effect does human growth hormone have on the body? One man, Dr. Uzzi Reiss admits that he's "been taking H.G.H. for many years. I have the energy and vibrancy of a man half my age ... I don't get sick, don't get jet-lagged. I can't see why anybody would inject H.G.H. if it doesn't have any benefits."

An unnamed filmmaker tells Zeman "l'll tell you why I took H.G.H. in the first place. I love [romance] ... And when I hit my 50s, although I was still very sexually active, I was less so than when I was in my 20s. And like other pathetically insecure Hollywoodites, I had an internal panic that led me to curiously explore what options were available in the world."

Although no A-listers appear to be named in the article (the full version of which you can read when Vanity Fair hits stands on Thursday), Zeman did speak to some off the record, who, according to the press release, "view H.G.H., which can cost as much as $10,000 per year, as a fountain of youth in a syringe."

The only worry, as one H.G.H.-using actor puts it, "starring in movies [and using the drug] is great until you get man t**s." Noted.

Mess with hormones that are a finely balanced endocrine interrelationship and you will suffer major consequences. Eat well, keep fit, and let Mother Nature and time take their toll or you will suffer greater consequences than the appearance of aging!

Botox is not a hormone, it is a poison produced from the bacteria that causes botulism - food poisoning. Ewww, right?

Sylvester Stallone just looks a bit freaky these days. Honestly, I do wish everyone would just allow their bodies and faces to age naturally. One can always tell when trickery is being done and it just makes it all kind of sad. I understand the tremendous pressure on Hollywood actors, but maybe we can all embrace age and not think only the young are interesting.

A Hollywood makeup artist can make anyone look younger, or older, good-or-bad appearing, depending upon the script of the day. For the performers themselves, it's a mental thing that allows them to think they really are the part being played. They give out awards for that stuff. Phoney!

Stallone had to take these hormones. He is very loopsided and homely. Droppy eyes etc. This will help him.

Folks, I'm a male 58 years old and ripped. Never used a drug of any kind other than
ibuprofen. I work out 1.5 to 3 hours a day doing a variety of activities from weights to swimming to walking to situps to pushups. I do it 6 to 7 days a week on top of a normal career load.
I make it a priority. To accuse everyone who's my age and in shape of using some
drug to accomplish the feat is just wrong.

OK, I'll bite. Sylvester looks like crap. So what's the point of HGH? I think anti-oxidents, maintaining an appropriate weight, healthy eating and exercise are probably a better choice. Have you seen Jane Fonda? She's a great example.

It is amazing how people are trying to turn back the clock. Don't they realize that aging is a natural progression? How can a 50 yr. old ache to look like they did in their 20's? It is unnatural and looks terrible. Some of the most beautiful women I have seen have lines on their face but have wisdom, caring for others and a confidence that radiates a particular kind of beauty. The same is true of men who age gracefully. It really is true, beauty comes from within.

Human Growth Hormone is NOT appropriate for adults in the long run: there is a high risk of developing cancer. Children have naturally high levels of HGH and these levels lower as one ages. This is the natural course of events. Trying to overcome aging by taking artificial substances that mimic what you had as a child is bound to be a Pandora's box. In this case, the downside is cancer.

Searching for a natural HGH treatment can be quite difficult but when I got here: http://tinyurl.com/genf20plus-HGH I was convinced to try the GenF20 program. I made an important decision because I see daily how my physical strength returns and how I look in the mirror. Things are looking up and its all thanks to you GenF20 - the only efficient treatment for growing up.

not real hgh genf20 is a load of trash the only real hgh comes in injections these are Humatrope, norditropin, saizen, serno, gensci jintropin, hygetropin, kigtropin, nutropin, protropin, genotropin, genetropin, neotropin, taitropin, tevtropin, thanktropin, atropin, trimatropin,(generic blue top very cheep but can be very good if you have the right contacts in china)the best HGH you can get top 3 are:-Nutropin AQ,Norditropin Simpexx,Humatrope, also i think JintropinAQ should be up there to these ones are new liquid hgh much much more potent and stronger they are made in liquid althrough the manufactoring process than powder
11:49 PM on 02/05/2012
The harmful side effects of HGH consist of enlargement of the heart, hypertension, solidifying of the arteries, chest pains, soreness and distended joints because of fluid preservation, carpal tunnel syndrome, terrible headaches, diabetes and bizarre enlargements on the bones or internal organs. The other forms of less serious side effects of HGH are nausea, loose stools and symptoms-like flu.

You are correct. I knew a gentleman that was weathly and used around $400.00 per week in injections of HGH. He was in his late 50's and looked very good, also had some plastic surgery. However, after a few years I heard through mutual friends that he had enlarged heart and may possibly need a transplant. Now for him, money was no object, and not sure if this drug was responsable, but he was in good health before using it. I'm sure he wil have to stop this drug, if he survives go back to the old fashion way of working out and heathly diet.
Oh and by the way, the HGH pills are worthless. Only injections give results and they aren't cheap...i'm all for staying in shape and proventing the aging process if possible, but common sense and more research needs to be done on long term effects of such drugs.
