Mary Louise Parker In 'Lovelace'? Star Replaces Demi Moore As Gloria Steinem: Report [UPDATE]

Mary-Louise Parker has joined the cast of the 70s-era porn-star biopic "Lovelace," replacing Demi Moore in the role of feminist icon Gloria Steinem, Us Weekly reports.

Moore dropped out of the film earlier this week after being hospitalized for what her publicists described as "exhaustion."

Steinem is not expected to figure prominently in the film, which features Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace, the troubled star of the iconic porn film "Deep Throat." Peter Sarsgaard plays Lovelace's ex-husband, porn production manager Chuck Traynor; James Franco has a cameo as Hugh Hefner; and Hank Azaria is set to appear as Jerry Damiano, the director of "Deep Throat."

Parker will next be seen in "RIPD," a supernatural cop drama starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon.

UPDATE: Whoops! Looks like Us had the wrong Parker. EW reports that Sarah Jessica Parker will replace Moore in "Lovelace."

I hate to tell casting directors their business but Seyfried should be playing Steinheim. Moore and Parker could split the role of the title heroine. Parker could play Linda "before and during." Moore could play her "after." Already exhausted, her convincing performance might even be Oscar worthy.

I read up on this woman and found her stories about abuse to be eye brow raisers. Some might be true such as her husband being abusive but a lot of them sounded like anti-porn propaganda.

I saw "Deep Throat" in 1973. I don't know why there were so many guys in the theater wearing raincoats. It wasn't even raining outside.

lol. If I may recommend, there's a great documentary out (it's streaming on Netflix if you happen to have it). It's called Inside Deep Throat - it's really quite interesting. I was around when it came out, but still a bit too young to see it or really pay attention. I never knew there was so much intrigue and suspense surrounding it - from the censorship issues to mob interference, as well as Linda Lovelace's 'transformation', etc. I think MLP will be great in the role - she is a great actress and is quite sexy in Weeds, I always thought.

I see Mary Louise as a much better casting call than Demi for this role. She has the right level of grit and raunchiness for this kind portrayal. With Demi, it would have been too much about her.

yes I know but Gloria is/was a powerful force and pushed a lot of boundaries. She wasn't a wallflower . . . she has an edge that I think Parker will capture better than Moore would have
