Severed Head Found Near The Hollywood Sign
The glamorous associations of the iconic Hollywood sign in the Los Angeles hills took a sinister turn Tuesday when two passersby found a severed human head in a bag near the landmark.
While walking their dogs, two female hikers found what police have identified as the head of a human male on a walking trail near Griffith Observatory in the Hollywood Hills, Reuters reports.
"Two dogs were playing with it, and that's when the dog walkers looked closer and realized it was a human head," Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Karen Rayner said.
Authorities believe that the severed head had not been at the site for long, due to the fact that there were no animal bites visible, Rayner said.
Cadaver dogs scoured the area in search of other human remains that afternoon, but the investigation was called off at dusk and is said to resume Wednesday morning.
