From safe to bizarre, Hollywood's best came dressed to the nines for the 69th annual Golden Globes. Who wore it best? Who wore it worst? Take a look at the red carpet looks below.PHOTOS:

BEST: Young And Fresh
"Young Adult" nominee Charlize Theron is stunning in this pale blush Dior Couture gown, with belted bow detail finished with a Cartier gem and a serious slit that shows a little leg. Her vintage-inspired 'do, sparkly headband and dewy makeup make this look a head-to-toe winner. -
WORST: Off Their Game
How can you mess with perfection? Yes, nominees Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie make it tough to nitpick, but this is not their best look. Angie looks very Queen of Hearts in a white Atelier Versace gown with pops up red, and Brad ... well, fine, he's handsome as always, but we prefer him a little more clean-cut. -
BEST: Va-Va-Vergara
"Modern Family" funny lady and nominee Sofia Vergara shows off her signature curves in this peacock-colored Vera Wang gown. Fitted up top, the strapless dress explodes with a swirl of pleats from the waist down, with a small train to add even more glamour. -
WORST: A Rookie Mistake
Jessica Chastain is one of our favorite new leading ladies -- between "The Help," "Tree of Life," "The Debt" and "Take Shelter," this was truly her breakout year -- but this white Givenchy gown is missing that "wow" factor. A pop of color against her red hair and pale skin would've dazzled, but it's her first Golden Globes ever -- it'll only get better. -
BEST: A Classic Couple
A four-time nominee tonight, George Clooney took the Hollywood glam route with his latest lady friend, Stacy Keibler, on his arm. We love George all dressed up -- the man can wear a tux -- and Stacy is looking lovely in a red carpet-matching red Valentino gown. -
WORST: A Doily Don't
Nominated "New Girl" star Zooey Deschanel stepped out of her quirky comfort zone in a one-of-a-kind Prada dress. We love the pop of color with the green beaded top (and did you see her tuxedo-inspired manicure?), but what's up with the doily neckline? -
BEST: No "Help" Needed
"The Help" scene-stealer and nominee Octavia Spencer looks lovely in lavender at her very first Golden Globes. This Tadashi Shoji gown shows off her curves, with crystal detail, matching Christian Louboutin platform peeptoe heels and gorgeous jewels to complete the look. -
BEST: Making A Splash
"The Descendants" star Shailene Woodley is dazzling in a mermaid-inspired Marchesa gown, with a sheer layer of tulle draped over the shimmery sequined form-fitting dress. At only 20 years old, we can't wait to see more from her onscreen and on the red carpet. -
WORST: To Dye For
Sarah Michelle Gellar got dip-dyed and splattered with color in this tie-dye-inspired Monique Lhuillier gown. We love that she let her two-year-old daughter choose what she'd wear, and the print definitely stands out, but the size of the gown overwhelms her petite frame. -
BEST: In The Buff
Katharine McPhee is ready to wow with her new NBC drama "Smash" -- an over-the-top look at the making of a Marilyn Monroe musical on Broadway -- but she takes a page from Marilyn's more subtly sexy side in this Donna Karan beaded nude gown with a short fishtail hem. -
BEST: A Dramatic Choice, No Joke
What's black and white and fabulous, front and back? "Homeland" star and nominee Claire Danes' show-stopping J. Mendel gown. The black and ivory matte jersey column dress gets serious star power with beaded shoulders and belt and a sparkly cut-out back detail. -
WORST: "Good," Not Great
"The Good Wife" star Julianna Margulies is always stunning, but this understated Naeem Khan eggplant gown is a little too safe. We applaud her for boldly showing very little skin (though it was a pretty plunging back), but we'd love to see a bit more bling on a nominee. -
BEST: Golden Girl
Salma Hayek never ceases to stun on the red carpet, and her Golden Globe presenting duties got her all dolled up in Gucci. This shimmery black strapless gown gets an extra shot of glamour from the gold beading detail on the bodice. Her flawless figure doesn't hurt either. -
WORST: Total Blackout
First-time nominee Rooney Mara looks like she's holding onto the darkness of her "Dragon Tattoo" role in this black Nina Ricci gown. The dress is fine, but if you're a nominee, we want more than just OK. And a little smile goes a long way, too. -
BEST: Easy Does It
It doesn't take much to make Reese Witherspoon look stunning, which is why we're always thrilled when she opts for understated glamour. This red Zac Posen gown hugs all her curves, while her beachy 'do and simple make-up keep things looking effortless. -
BEST: Sneak Attack
"Luther" star and winner Idris Elba is one classically handsome man, but we love that he's not afraid to take fashion risks. His double-breasted tux jacket gets accessorized with a shiny tie clip, pocket square and black flower pin, but it's his spike-studded slip-on sneakers that give him a step up. -
WORST: Cut It Out
It would only take one false move for "Glee" star Lea Michele to show us more than a sneak peek in this cut-out Marchesa gown. On someone more mature, it might be an exciting choice, but it just feels like too much on this TV diva -- leave something to the imagination! -
BEST: Pale In Comparison
Jessica Alba is gorgeous in Gucci, making the dusty lavender color really pop with her golden tan and bronzy make-up -- the sparkly detail and flattering fit of the gown don't hurt either. Note to other ladies trying to rock the lighter shades: This is how it's done. -
WORST: That's A Lot Of Material, Girl
It's been 14 years since Madonna worked the Golden Globes red carpet, but absence has not made our hearts grow fonder of her fashions. This Reem Acra gown is gorgeous on top, but the skirt is overwhelming her with what appears to be an origami fabric explosion. -
BEST: Hottest Couple
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan win the award for hottest couple ever. The Golden Globes first-timers strike a pose, he in a classic tux and she in a gorgeous teal Maria Lucia Hohan gown. In a sea of big-time stars, these two stole the show. -
WORST: Velvet Underground
After getting a nod for playing Marilyn Monroe in "My Week With Marilyn," Michelle Williams went for anti-sex appeal in this purple velvet cut-out Jason Wu dress. Her vintage Fred Leighton headband adds a special touch, but it can't save this look from being labeled frumpy. -
BEST: Fringe Benefits
The pressure was off of "Cougar Town" funny lady Busy Phillips -- she wasn't nominated or presenting, just there to support her best friend Michelle Williams, but she stole the spotlight in this asymmetrical fringed white gown styled with plenty of '60s bombshell details. -
WORST: Fashion "Horror Story"
Is this Connie Britton's middle finger to the Hollywood Foreign Press? The never-been-nominated "Friday Night Lights" alum and current "American Horror Story" star shows up looking like she's there for a tea party, not to attend a star-studded awards show. Next time, don't be afraid to bring the drama. -
BEST: The Eagle Has Landed
Emma Stone has perfected the art of playing the girl next door, but she kicked it up a notch for the Globes in this unique and sultry Lanvin look. Colorblocked with purple and fuchsia, the gown gets its edge from a few sheer panels and an eagle-emblazoned belt. -
WORST: Grandma Couture
For the record, Jessica Biel is smoking hot, which is why we take major issue with this grandma-inspired lace Elie Saab gown. Even the scalloped slit up the front and low draping back can't keep this from feeling matronly. Let's just hope she's not testing out wedding day looks. (Speaking of, where's her man Justin Timberlake and that reported engagement ring?) -
BEST: Berry Beautiful
Viola Davis proves once again that age is just a number. The 46-year-old actress, nominated for "The Help," takes home the award for highest thigh slit, and boy does she work it. Her deep raspberry-hued, one-shouldered Pucci gown is an absolute knockout.
