Nicolas Cage: What's His Best Bad Movie?

Nicolas Cage

On Jan. 7, 1964, Nicolas Kim Coppola was born in Long Beach, Calif. to August Coppola and Joy Vogelsang. To avoid the appearance of nepotism (that Coppola surname is those Coppolas; Nicolas is Francis Ford's nephew), the youngster changed his last name to Cage a short while after he began acting. 48 years later, Cage has won an Oscar, starred in enough terrible movies to last two careers ('Season of the Witch,' Ghost Rider' and more), and is famous enough to have a running parody of himself on 'Saturday Night Live.' Not bad, Nic! But what's his best bad movie?

Good question! Cage is a schlockmeister extraordinaire, but picking the best of his worst is a difficult task. First, what counts as good bad? Does 'The Rock'? (It doesn't, blasphemers; it's just good.) Does 'Con Air'? (It probably doesn't either?) Does 'Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans' qualify? Or 'Trespass'? Perhaps 'The Wicker Man'?

OK, well that last one definitely isn't the answer. 'The Wicker Man' is bad bad. Comically bad. To refresh your memory about its badness, watch the hilarious clip below, then weigh-in: what's the best bad Nicolas Cage movie? Winner gets in the Cage?

When talking about Nocolas Cage movies, nobody ever mentions "Birdy" by Alan Parker, with Matthew Modine.

Everytime I see a new Nic Cage movie preview I cannot help but wonder who is stupid enough to sink their money into a Nic Cage project. Are they blind? have they never seen a good movie? What is the deal with these investors? And who keeps paying to see him "act"?! The only thing that could make one of his movies worse is if he teamed up with Denise Richards.

I would share this brief story about Mr. Cage. He and his production company had a road into the mountains north of LA temporarily for a film shot. One of my friends was transporting a large crawler "Cat" on a low boy trailer. Mr. Cage asked my friend if he could sit in his new Kenworth truck? After looking around inside the cab and commenting on all the gauges and equipment on the truck, he visited with my friend and went back to work. Very polite and gracious individual, not some snotty, self impressed wanna be. He was a gentleman and down to earth, even though it wasn't witnessed of necessary. He's a good person in my opinion.

Wow...!!! Nobody mentioned "Face Off", I personally enjoy a lot of his movies...Only downside to and for me with him....for the most part, all his rolls have the same demeanor. Like some rap music, "the beat the same, just different words".

If Nicolas Cage is in the flick, I'll watch it. He has never failed to entertain yours truly.

The best Cage movies I remember are The Weatherman and Peggy Sue Got Married. I put the Weatherman in my top ten movies because of its rendition of a man who makes a silly job into something important and courageous, and inspires his fat daughter to like herself. I like everything Nic does and thus I suppose I may be called a "fan".

I loved him in Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, and Peggy Sue Got Married. He was good in Guarding Tess and the National Treasure movies, they seemed more like fun romps for him. Didn't think much of his other movies, though.
