Michel Gondry has directed some of the more intriguing films of the last ten years, including 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and 'The Science of Sleep.' Alas, his latest movie, 'The Green Hornet,' didn't exactly win over critics or audiences, which is why it's nice to see Gondry getting back to something a little more innovative -- even if it happens to be a low-quality reshoot of a Martin Scorsese movie.

ThePlaylist has just found the director's recreation of 'Taxi Driver,' which played at the French premiere of 'Hugo' this past week. The homage is known as sweding, a technique that Gondry explored in his film 'Be Kind Rewind,' where fans go out and recreate their own versions of classic movies.

In this version of 'Taxi Driver,' Gondry plays the complicated Travis Bickle, a role made famous by Robert De Niro. Dubbed in French with English subtitles, Michel re-imagines some of more iconic scenes for the film (it is a bit weird to hear De Niro's famous "You talking to me?" lines in another language). Gondry also employs plenty of creative quirks, like substituting paint for blood and colored pencils for bullets.

Unfortunately, there is no embed for the video. If you want to check it out, you'll have to head over to France2.
