No surprises here. The midnight box office numbers are in for 'Breaking Dawn, Part I,' and they are huge. The 'Twilight' sequel netted $30.25 million in midnight ticket sales, beating out the franchise record of $30 million, held by 'Eclipse' (the overall 'Twilight' three-day weekend record is 'New Moon,' with $142.8 million). Current estimates put the total 'Breaking Dawn' weekend receipts at $148 million. That's a whole lot of dough -- although it wouldn't be enough to break the 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.' With the help of 3D and IMAX, the final 'Harry Potter' film opened with a record $168.66 million in July. You hear that Twi-hards? You don't want to lose to Potter, do you?
