As you may have heard, Ricky Gervais will be back for a third time as host of the Golden Globes in January. His reason for returning? "What actually tipped the balance and made me say yes, was the fact that it would shut up all those fucking idiots who said that I'd never be invited back," Gervais wrote on his blog. "Is that the wrong reason to do something? Ha ha. I think it is." Or maybe it's not?
The controversial ("controversial") Gervais blasted Hollywood royalty at the Globes earlier this year, but despite leveling such A-listers as Johnny Depp, there weren't many hard feelings. After all, Depp himself appeared in a scene for Gervais's new series, 'Life's Too Short,' mocking the event.
"The outrage I caused was of course, as usual, totally out of proportion to the things I said," Gervais wrote. "I don't think anyone had any right to be offended but they were. This year I'm going to make sure their offence is completely justified. The best thing about it is writing the gags. I love writing one liners. Particularly when they can't be used in any other context. It gives them a special weight on the night if you know what I mean."
For what it's worth, the comic is looking for fans to tweet at him with targets for the monologue. Follow Gervais here and let him know! Per Gervais, this will be his final appearance on the Globes stage.
The Golden Globes air on NBC on Jan. 15.
