Behold, the power of George Clooney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor's latest movie, 'The Descendants,' is off to a strong start in limited release. Despite opening in only five theaters on Wednesday night, the film grossed $39,777, with an average of $7,955 per location. That might not seem like a whole lot of dough (particularly when you take into account the potential $125+ million opening of 'Breaking Dawn, Part I' this weekend), but it's pretty solid considering the number of theaters. To put it in perspective, 'J. Edgar' grossed $52,645 from seven theaters for an average $7,521 when it opened in limited release last Wednesday, which is just below the 'Descendants' haul. (Take that Leo!)

Starring Clooney, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard and Shailene Woodley (who spoke about Clooney's fart machine earlier this week), 'The Descendants' follows the story of Matt King (Clooney) who looks to reconnect with his daughters after his wife falls into a coma. The movie will open nationwide Nov. 23.
