Sometimes you can believe a celebrity Twitter account. Moments after Billy Crystal tweeted that he was hosting the 2012 Oscars, Deadline revealed the comic will host the 84th annual Academy Awards. On Thursday afternoon, the actor tweeted: "Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show." This is Crystal's ninth time hosting the Oscars; he previously hosted the show in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2004. During the disastrous ceremonies in February, Crystal was given a standing ovation before he introduced a retrospective on fellow Oscar-host titan, Bob Hope.
This news comes in light of comedian Eddie Murphy relenting his Oscar-hosting duties yesterday afternoon.
