Madonna might be the Queen of Pop, but her latest directorial effort, 'W.E.,' has been treated like a common peasant. A time-spanning drama about the love affair between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson in 1937, 'W.E.' premiered to lackluster reviews at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year, and was reportedly edited down for its debut at the BFI London Film Festival over the weekend. As if that weren't bad enough, Madge was reportedly booed before the London premiere because of tardiness. Cry for her, Argentina?
Per THR, fans waited for "hours" to see Madonna in Leicester Square, and were disappointed when she only stopped briefly to give a cursory wave. Said the star to Sky News, "I do know what it is like to be misunderstood on a global scale," a comparison to Wallis Simpson, who was vilified for her scandalous romance with King Edward.
'W.E.' is due out later this year.
