With a starring role in 'Drive' and outstanding work opposite Michael Fassbender in the upcoming 'Shame,' 2011 has worked out pretty well for former It-Girl Carey Mulligan. Judging from this flurry of casting news, 2012 and 2013 won't be so bad either. Variety reports that Mulligan has landed the lead role in Joel and Ethan Coen's 'Inside Llewyn Davis' opposite her 'Drive' co-star Oscar Isaac. The film, which is set to shoot early next year, focuses on the '60s folk scene in New York's Greenwich Village. Meanwhile! Mulligan is also negotiating to star with Joaquin Phoenix in the next Spike Jonze film, an untitled production written by Charlie Kaufman about world leader's coming together to stop a crisis. (So, like 'Dr. Strangelove'?) The former Oscar nominee is also filming 'The Great Gatsby' for Baz Luhrmann, which will hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2012. For those not keeping score at home, that means the last five directors Mulligan will have worked for are: Nicolas Winding Refn, Steve McQueen, Luhrmann, the Coen Brothers and Jonze. Not bad, Carey. Not bad at all. [Variety]

Don't sleep on Ben Stiller when it comes to interesting filmmakers; after all, the guy is responsible for 'Reality Bites,' 'The Cable Guy,' 'Zoolander' and 'Tropic Thunder,' four films that still hold places in the zeitgeist. He's got to be doing something right! That gushing is just prologue to this: Deadline reports that Stiller is re-teaming with his 'Reality Bites' co-writer Helen Childress to develop 'The Mountain,' a horror story based on characters from the Edith Wharton novel 'Summer.' The film would follow "a young woman who struggles to confront her destiny after stumbling upon a mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past." (Deadline's Mike Fleming compares it to 'Rosemary's Baby,' so that's good.) Stiller would likely direct the Twentieth Century Fox film, but not before 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,' which he'll star in and direct for the studio. [Deadline]

You haven't heard from Catherine Zeta-Jones in a while, but the Oscar-and-Tony-winning actress will resurface onscreen for 'Broken City' with Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg. She'll play the cheating wife of the New York mayor (Crowe), whose lover winds up dead after a detective (Wahlberg) starts investigating the affair. Allen Hughes ('From Hell') directs. [Deadline]

'Anonymous' screenwriter John Orloff has been hired to write the Bryan Singer-directed remake of 'Battlestar Galactica' for Universal. The film will be based on the original 1978 television series and not the beloved recent reboot. "I have wanted to write this movie since I was 12 years old, and built a Galactica model from scratch out of balsa wood, cardboard, old model parts and LEDs," Orloff said to Deadline. "I love 'BSG,' and I would pass on the job rather than frak it up." [Deadline]

The awesome-sounding boxing drama 'Southpaw,' which would combine the talents of Eminem, Kurt Sutter ('Sons of Anarchy') and Antonie Fuqua ('Training Day') has found a home. THR reports that MGM will produce with Sony doing the distributing. Insert your favorite variation on the c-word here in honor of Sutter. [THR]
