If you love robot boxing, Ryan Gosling or losing dignity, this is the weekend for you! 'Real Steel,' 'The Ides of March' and, in limited release, 'The Human Centipede 2' all hit theaters on Friday, meaning there's something for everyone at the local multiplex. What film will emerge victorious at the box office? 'Real Steel,' of course! But how much will it make? Your weekend movie preview lies ahead.

NATIONWIDE RELEASES

'Real Steel'
What's the story: In a future where robots box, a washed-up former pugilist (Hugh Jackman) and his estranged son train a sparring bot to contend for the championship belt. Robot boxing, y'all!

Box-office projection: Projections for 'Real Steel' have been in the $23 to $25 million range, but doesn't that seem low? Since the first weekend of August the only movies to lead the box office have been 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes,' 'The Help,' 'Contagion,' 'The Lion King 3D' and 'Dolphin Tale.' Not really a murderer's row of big, quadrant-busting features. That's where 'Real Steel' comes in. Thanks to a marketing campaign that has not only focused on the family (ding!) but also bodacious robot boxing, the Shawn Levy-directed film could be the quadrant-busting feature ticket buyers have been waiting for since mid-summer. Toss in the fact that Jackman is a bona fide A-lister and 'Steel' should vastly outperform those modest projections. Maybe it won't hit $40 million, but would anyone be surprised if 'Real Steel' earned over $30 million? $33.6 million

'The Ides of March'
What's the story: An idealistic campaign staffer (Ryan Gosling) learns hard life-lessons while campaigning for a presidential candidate (George Clooney) who may not be on the level. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Marisa Tomei co-star in the latest film from George Clooney, director.

Box-office projection: If the last three months are any indication, Hollywood really wants Ryan Gosling to happen. Which is fine since everyone loves The Gos, but it doesn't mean he's actually happening. 'Drive' earned a little more than $11 million during its opening weekend in the dead early portions of September. Expecting 'The Ides of March' to gross more feels like a fool's errand. After all, it's an adult drama (strike one) about politics (strike two). Gosling is Gosling-y, but right now that means grosses peaking in the teens. $11.6 million
