As it turns out, even superheroes have a dark side. In 'Puncture,' out in limited release on Friday, Chris Evans portrays a crusading personal injury lawyer... who also happens to be addicted to various narcotics. That's right: Captain America is a smack head. What will the little Jimmys and Johnnys of the world think of him?! Fortunately -- or unfortunately, depending on your view -- Evans isn't alone among the cast of 'The Avengers' when it comes to portraying characters of questionable conduct in other projects. Ahead, a closer look at the all-star cast of the upcoming Marvel superhero flick, with particular attention paid to their darker roles.

Scarlett Johansson, 'The Last Score'
In 'The Last Score,' Johansson plays a high school student who cheats on her SATs (gasp!).
-
Robert Downey Jr, 'Less Than Zero'
Even though Robert Downey Jr. has cleaned himself up now, the Iron Man dealt with his own personal demons of addiction back in the late '90s. Prior to that, the actor played a convincing and doomed drug addict in the 1987 flick 'Less Than Zero.'

Chris Evans, 'Puncture'
In 'Puncture,' Chris Evans plays Mike Weiss, a lawyer at a small firm. Evans does pretty much any drug he can get his hands on in this movie, including heroin, cocaine and possibly crack. He's ultimately trying to be heroic, but really: what would Steve Rogers think?

Chris Hemsworth, 'Ollie Klublershturf Vs. the Nazis'
The first non-drug role on our list for an 'Avengers' cast member. In this short film by Damon Lindelof, Chris Hemsworth (a.k.a. Thor) plays a bible salesmen moonlighting as a Nazi member. By Odin's beard! Check out the full video here.

Samuel L. Jackson, 'Jungle Fever'
Samuel L. Jackson -- who plays S.H.I.E.L.D. head Nick Fury in 'The Avengers' -- has had his fair share of dark and twisted roles ('Pulp Fiction,' 'Black Snake Moan,' 'Unbreakable'). However, in 'Jungle Fever,' the actor portrays a crack addict willing to steal from family members to feed his habit.
-
Jeremy Renner, 'Dahmer'
Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) played a violent bank robber in 'The Town,' but his portrayal as the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was by far his darkest character yet. Renner was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for the role.
-
Mark Ruffalo, 'Reservation Road'
What Mark Ruffalo does in 'Reservation Road' would not sit well with the rest of his superhero co-stars. In the film, he plays a father who hits a young boy with his car and subsequently tries to cover up the accident. Jeez, someone sick the Hulk on this guy. (Ruffalo also went dark as a cop in 'In the Cut.')
