In more celebrity doppelganger news, Deadline reports that rapper-turned-actor Snoop Dogg has nabbed the lead role in an upcoming biopic about Fillmore Slim, entitled 'The Legend of Fillmore Slim.' If the name isn't ringing any bells, Fillmore Slim (who's still alive and touring at 77) is a bluesman and infamous pimp from the '60s and '70s. Snoop's past acting credits include roles in 'Old School,' 'Starsky and Hutch,' and 'Training Day.'
If the physical similarities and the musical connection weren't enough, the existence of Snoop's highly successful 2001 porn video 'Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle' makes this a potential match made in heaven. According to the film's co-producer Alan Ames, "This film will span decades from Slim's emergence as a musician, to his fascination with the fast life, through his years of incarceration and his redemption."
Hawthorne James is set to direct with a March 2012 release date in sight.
