The Mark Obmascik book that 'The Big Year' is based on tells the story of the Big Year, an annual competition that finds bird watchers spanning the globe to identify the most species of birds. You'd be forgiven for not realizing that after watching the new trailer for 'The Big Year,' though, since it paints the Steve Martin/Jack Black/Owen Wilson-led comedy as something like 'The Bucket List' for younger dudes. (Or 'Tropic Thunder' with a PG-13 friendly comedy triptych.) Click through to watch.

The flannel. The silly hats. The Credence Clearwater Revival music cue. It's like this trailer was cut specifically for your father. David Frankel, he of 'Marley & Me' and 'The Devil Wears Prada' fame directs, so you should expect some yeomanly work with a heartwarming ending, but otherwise not much else. Also: can't Rashida Jones get some love from the big voiceover guy? Girl is famous!

'The Big Year' arrives in theaters on Oct. 14. Head over to Apple to watch the trailer in HD.
