It seems like just yesterday that 'Thor' kicked off the summer movie season, doesn't it? Looking back, it was an appropriate opener, as the past few months could quite easily be labeled the Superhero Summer, what with 'X-Men: First Class,' 'Green Lantern' and 'Captain America' following the God of Thunder. You guys sure seem to dig the whole costumed-hero thing, evidenced by Superheroes' absolute dominance in our Movie Genre vs. Movie Genre Tournament.
Sprinkled in between all the Spandex, though, were standout comedies ('Bridesmaids'), classic summer nostalgia ('Super 8'), surprisingly good reboots ('Rise of the Planet of the Apes'), box-office record-setters ('Harry Potter'), atypical summer fare that found a larger audience ('The Help') and one flick in particular that came out of nowhere and totally blew us away. (Psssst: It's our choice for Best Movie of the Summer.)
We've decided to do away with the standard, Oscar-style Best Actor / Best Director prizes. For the Moviefone Summer Movie Awards, we honor such achievements as Best Swearing and Best Alien Invasion Movie, while we also felt the need to wag our fingers at the Biggest Star-Power Fizzle and the Worst Logic Violations we saw. It's a somewhat eclectic list, but we do close with Best Movie. We just had to. It was soooooo good.
