'The Lone Ranger' is riding hard.

Variety reports that Dwight Yoakam, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale and Helena Bonham Carter are in talks to join the Gore Verbinski-directed actioner that stars Armie Hammer as the masked man and Johnny Depp as Tonto.

The Disney film follows the Lone Ranger story arc of a single surviving Texas Ranger, rescued by Tonto, who tracks down the murderous Cavendish gang. Yoakam would play Butch Cavendish -- the main villain in the piece -- and Pepper would play the leader of the U.S. seventh cavalry. Dale would play Dan Reid, the Lone Ranger's older brother and leader of the Texas Rangers, and Carter would play the madam of a brothel.

Also starring are Tom Wilkinson and Ruth Wilson.

The film, which begins shooting this fall, is scheduled for a Dec. 21, 2012 release.
