Two days ago, Bruce Campbell confirmed via Twitter that a remake of 'The Evil Dead' is most definitely happening. Today, we have the unfortunate privilege of informing you that, while he'll most likely still be involved in some way, Sam Raimi will not be directing the remake. Now that he's already got his hands full with 'Oz: The Great and Powerful,' it looks like the honor of revamping one of the best horror movies ever made is going to newcomer Fede Alvarez.

Disappointing news, considering how great 'Drag Me to Hell' was, but then again, 'Evil Dead 2' was as much a loose remake of the original as it was a sequel, so we don't think Raimi is too torn about passing the torch on the franchise that gave him his big break. Nevertheless, Alvarez has his work cut out for him, especially since he's never made a feature film before.

Hit the jump to see Alvarez's short film, 'Panic Attack!' and judge for yourself whether he's got he chops to do the original justice.

Now that Raimi's out, are you still looking forward to the 'Evil Dead' remake?
