CATEGORIES Movie NewsI'm not holding out much hope for the Lionsgate movie 'What to Expect When You're Expecting,' a comedy derived from a guidebook on pregnancies (it somehow reminds me of the debacle of 1964's 'Sex and the Single Girl').
The Kirk Jones-directed film, which is scheduled to begin production this summer in Atlanta, follows five couples who suffer the many joys of the childbirth process.
The film stars Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Brooklyn Decker (the model-turned-actress who made her feature debut opposite Adam Sandler in 'Just Go With It') and Anna Kendrick; the Decker and Kendrick castings were announced Thursday.
But spicing up the cast will be Chris Rock, whom Deadline reports is signing on to play the head of a group of expectant fathers who lectures them on what it's really like to have a baby and become a father. This is the kind of role made for Rock, allowing him to stand up in front of a group of men and riff on marriage, pregnancy, fatherhood and whatever else he can squeak past the censors. I'm sure that the eventual DVD will have some extended/deleted Chris Rock scenes in it that were just too hot for the big screen. That we'd like to see.
