He's not just prepping a 'Dick Tracy' sequel and lining up a comedy for Paramount; the actor/director will also be playing legendary billionaire Howard Hughes in a new film which he's also written, and he's seeking a top-notch cast to support him.
Wife Annette Bening is reportedly on board, and Beatty is talking to Andrew Garfield, Alec Baldwin, Annette Bening, Shia La Beouf, Jack Nicholson, Evan Rachel Wood and 'The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo' star Rooney Mara.
It would be the first time Beatty and Nicholson have shared a screen since 'Reds,' for which Beatty won the Best Director Oscar 30 years ago, and the first re-pairing with Bening since 1994's 'Love Affair.'
Speaking of Oscar, playing Hughes has been a path to the Academy Awards for Leonardo DiCaprio, as the young movie mogul/pilot in 'The Aviator' and Jason Robards, who portrayed an older, more reclusive Hughes in 1980's 'Melvin and Howard.'
The film is not being billed as a biopic, but focuses on the affairs that Hughes (always a notorious womanizer) had later in life. That means we'll likely see the now-74-year-old Beatty romancing young things like Mara (25) and Wood (23).
