British actor Douglas Booth has beaten out hundreds of other applicants for the role of Romeo opposite 'True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld.

Booth previously portrayed a young Boy George in last year's BBC biopic 'Worried About the Boy.' He also played Eustace in 'Pillars of the Earth' and will be Pip in an upcoming TV production of 'Great Expectations.' (Not to be confused with the big-screen version, which will star another relative unknown, 'War Horse's Jeremy Irvine.)

The classic romantic tragedy has been filmed countless times, but the last major big-screen treatment was Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes.

Booth would have been just 4 at the time and Steinfeld wasn't even born until a month after that film hit theaters. (And there's your daily "Wow, do I feel old" dosage. You're welcome.)

Holly Hunter, 'Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick and Kodi Smit-McPhee of 'Let Me In' and 'The Road,' are also among the cast.

Carlo Carlei ('Flight of the Innocent') will direct from a script by Julian Fellowes ('Gosford Park').
