CATEGORIES Movie NewsAlthough his character doesn't appear in J. R. R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit,' the elf Legolas will be making an appearance in the big-screen version courtesy of director Peter Jackson and Orlando Bloom. Bloom will return as the elf in the two-movie adaptation currently shooting in New Zealand.
Jackson made the announcement Friday in a Facebook post, saying "Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I'm excited to announce today that we'll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I'm thrilled to be working with Orlando again."
Bloom, who got his first major role in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, has had a spotty career as a leading man outside of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise, starring in a few rom-coms and sword-and-sandal epics. Next up for the actor is the role of the Duke of Buckingham, the English paramour of the Queen of France in the upcoming 'The Three Musketeers,' directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and scheduled for an October 14 release, and the thriller 'The Good Doctor,' which has yet to find a release date.
The first of the two Hobbit movies is planned for a December 2012 release with the second expected a year later.
