Disney will release 'Spider-Man' director Sam Raimi's buzzed-about 3D 'Wizard of Oz' prequel, 'Oz: The Great and Powerful,' on March 8, 2013, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

James Franco stars in the film, about a young circus magician whose hot air balloon is blown off course and lands in Oz, where the citizens believe he is a real wizard. Mila Kunis is set to co-star as the Wicked Witch of the West, one of the three witches who control Oz. Rachel Weisz is, depending on who you ask, either signed on or in talks to play another of the wicked witches, Evanora, and Michelle Williams is in negotiations to take on the role of Glinda the Good.

Filming begins in late July in Michigan.

Disney has big dreams for 'Oz: The Great and Powerful,' hoping it will replicate the performance of another beloved children's story-turned-3D spectacle, 'Alice in Wonderland,' which raked in over $1 billion at the box office worldwide.
