During a presentation with licensees and promotional partners on the 'Ice Age' franchise, Fox Filmed Entertainment co-chair Tom Rothman and Fox Animation Studios president Vanessa Morrison announced the cast for 2012's 'Ice Age: Continental Drift.' Jeremy Renner, Wanda Sykes, Aziz Ansari, hip-hop star Drake and Jennifer Lopez will join returning players Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Dennis Leary and John Leguizamo for the animated adventure.
Lopez's involvement in the film falls under the development deal she struck with Fox when she signed up to be a judge on 'American Idol,' Deadline reports. The 'Maid in Manhattan' actress will voice the character Shira, a snow leopard.
According to iTunes Movie Trailers, in 'Continental Drift,' Manny (Romano), Diego (Leary) and Sid (Leguizamo) "embark upon their greatest adventure after cataclysm sets an entire continent adrift." The trio ends up being separated from the rest of the herd and hop aboard an iceberg, launching "an epic seafaring quest" where they encounter exotic sea creatures, new lands and ruthless pirates.
Also returning is fan-favorite character Scrat, voiced by Chris Wedge, a prehistoric squirrel on an eternal quest for his beloved acorn.
'Ice Age: Continental Drift' will be released in 3-D on July 13, 2012.
