One of the hot-topic remakes for next year is Len Wiseman's reworking of Paul Verhoeven's 1990 'Total Recall,' which has Colin Farrell taking the lead role of Doug Quaid (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original) and several actresses vying for the two female leads.

Recently Jessica Biel was rumored to be in line for one of the parts, but now Deadline is reporting that Kate Beckinsale has been offered the part of Quaid's wife (and undercover spy) Lori, the role that helped launch Sharon Stone's career.

Deadline reports that Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are serious contenders for the other female lead, that of resistance fighter Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin).

Beckinsale may have the inside track for the part of Lori: She's married to Wiseman and they worked together on the very popular and profitable 'Underworld' films. That's the kind of successful teaming that makes studios -- in this case Sony -- happy about their projects. We're happy too; we can never get enough of Phillip K. Dick adaptations (in this case, his short story 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale').
