The young-adult literary market is a giant, so it seems inevitable that we'd be swamped with the recent hurricane of film adaptations -- especially with the Harry Potter series soon coming to an end. Hopefully these book-to-screen adaptations will all be as interesting as 'The Seventh Son' seems, because any movie where Jeff Bridges is in talks to play a witchfinder is one to keep tabs on.

Variety
reports that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have tapped two young leads for the roles of Tom and Alice, characters in the adaptation of 'The Last Apprentice,' which is the first of Joseph Delaney's bestselling Y.A. series, 'The Wardstone Chronicles.'

With Jeff Bridges as Master Gregory and Julianne Moore as the villainous Mother Malkin almost locked in place, the studio is now turning to relative newcomers Sam Claflin and Alicia Vikander to hop on board. Claflin, who has a central role in the upcoming 'Pirates of the Caribbean' film, will play Thomas Ward, the seventh son of a seventh son. (Brain = broken.)

Vikander, who the European Film Promotion (EFP) named a "Rising Star," plays Moore's daughter Alice. She befriends Tom but may also take after her witchy mother.

Academy Award-nominated director Sergei Bodrov ('Prisoner of the Mountains') is helming 'Seventh Son,' which hasn't been given the full go-ahead just yet, but plans for a 2013 release date seem a given with this prospective talent. Based on what we know so far, does 'The Seventh Son' get the green light from you?
