Last year, Zach Galifianakis circled the project, but no public agreement was made, and now there's a new director in the works. This name might not make the remake suddenly seem like a good idea creatively, but it could help ease one indie man's indie woes: Richard Linklater.
According to L.A. Times' 24 Frames, the man who made 'School of Rock' is the leading directorial candidate, with one source claiming that Warner Bros. is about to make it official and hire the Texan. It is certainly an interesting choice, since Linklater is a director known for his intense interpersonal pieces and comedies. 'Dazed and Confused' doesn't exactly make people think Linklater is the prime choice for a mix of fantastical live action and animation.
However, the Austin filmmaker has had a really hard time of things in recent years. The upcoming 'Bernie' could change that, as could a successful mainstream feature, either giving him enough money to make the indies everyone's turning their backs on these days, or give him the clout to get said cash.
If it meant the possibility of more wonderfully indie Linklater fare, what do you think about Linklater on Limpet?
