Since word hit that Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' was being adapted, everyone has been wondering who will play Roland Deschain. Though the likes of Viggo Mortensen and Christian Bale have entered and left the mix, one actor's name has remained throughout -- Javier Bardem. With Mortensen out (and presumably occupied with 'Snow White and the Huntsman') and Bale busy with 'The 13 Women of Nanjing' and the next Batman, there's one gruff-and-tough man left.

Though whittling down the rumored choices doesn't exactly lend clarity to the possibility of his casting, this does: Producer Brian Grazer confirms that they want Bardem for the role and are currently doing what they can to make that happen.

When pressed by MTV, Grazer said, "We're in the process of trying to put that together ... He's locked in psychologically. He really wants to do it, so we're absolutely rooting for him to do it." In fact, when it comes to casting the project overall, Grazer said that they're really just focused on Roland. (Which could speak to their desire to have Bardem, or an interest in letting only one confirmed rumor loose at a time.)

What could stand in his way? Well, these days Bardem's name is all over the place, as he's rumored to have gigs in everything from the next James Bond flick to 'Potsdamer Platz.' And signing on the dotted line for this project means committing to a very long process that includes a series of films and television installments. Will the three-time Oscar nominee and one-time winner want to commit to such an epic project?

That big question still remains.
